My DP is a hairdresser. She say's "off scalp" coloring is ok.
hi all,
I normally get foils and things , but have let my hair go wild as iv heard many views o hair colouring while pregnant
what do you all think on this one?
My DP is a hairdresser. She say's "off scalp" coloring is ok.
Wel I have through both pregancies. I dont belive the dye actually is absorbed into the blood stream...please correct me if im wrong![]()
Good luck x
I had mine coloured a couple of times while I was pregnant and there's nothing wrong with my little one. He's as healthy as a horse![]()
I home colored thru out Jacks pg he is fine, this time I have been having prof colors and foils
If it was going to be a prob there would be all sorts of warnings out there & a hairdresser wouldn't do it!! go for it.
As far as I know the amount of stuff that actually gets absorbed into your skin is minimal.
I self colour and have not stopped during my pregnancy at all. If you are worried get your hair dresser to just not take the product onto your scalp.
Nae x
I have been, but this time around in just using semi perm ones as the chemicals aren't as strong & stinky. I wanted to go a bit lighter too yet my hairdresser mentioned that pregnancy does funny things to hair like red tinges and the like so she said it might be best to leave all that till after bubs is born...
I have had my hair done twice this pregnancy - full head of foils each time. I coloured my hair during my last pgs as well. If you want to get your hair done, I say go for it.
Ah perfect just what i wanted to hear lol
I dont think i coudl cope the whole time with bad regrowth hehehthey say sometimes blonde goes red in pregnant women, anyone ever had that happen to them''
I asked my midwife about this and she advised against it so I figured better safe than sorry... I think I'm in the minority here though!
Can I quote myself from another thread?
To put a different view :
I did not dye my hair during either pregnancy. My DH feels strongly that it should not be done. Personally I waver - there are arguments that unnecessary toxins absorbed trhu the skin during pg can have a damaging effect on the foetus (for example there are quite a few studies that link excessive makeup use to problems later on). I wear next to no makeup and try to limit chemical exposure so wasn't really fussed by the "risks" however real or small or whatever) but it was something DH felt strongly about so I didn't do it. I figured they were his kids too so he had a say.
Now I am using permanents all the time (the greys are a little stronger these days LOL!). What will I do when pg with number 3? I honestly don't know. I suspect DH's stong stance against it will lead me to use foils (no contact with scalp) or a natural dye. There is also that gut feeling I have that I don't want to take the risk.
So my advice is to do some research and weigh up the risks for yourself. But I would not take the advice of your hairdresser seriously - they are not experts in the area and a sample size of a few 100 (or event 1000) preganant clients with "no problems from hair dye" is not statistically sufficient for them to make a call. Plus they have a vested interest in continuing to use whatever dye they are currently using so are not entirely unbiased.
IMO this is just one of the many risks you will have to weigh up as a mum, so welcome to the world of worrying about your baby LOL!!
Ive been colouring my hair every 3/4 weeks during my pg. However I am using a natural hair colour which doesnt have the same chemicals as normal colour. I was paranoid about harming the baby but my FS said natural hair colour is fine
Hope this helps
Cheers,
Tania
I DO take my hairdresser seriously she is my partner and the mother of our child and herself well researched in her own understanding.
Clinically, avoiding scalp contact is the key to safety in the first trimester if oyu are concerned.
If anything is going to absorb it's through skin not hair.
Chemical exposures are neutralised by diluting- read rinsing if you are worried about excess exposure to chemicals.
One point DP made is no matter what you put in your hair to colour it, it is still a chemical, regardless if it is termed "natural".
How many have avoided hair colouring whilst TTC (if it is an issue? You still have two susceptible cells.....
I have coloured mine twice this pregnancy and once when I was pregnant with me son. The only downside for me is I'm guessing because of the hormones or extra oil in my hair my hair dyes seem to be fading and washing out :/
Thanks so much for all your replys.
i got some lovely foils the other day my hair looks great and im sure bubs is ok too
they ddint touch my scalp
Good for you, it feels so nice to get a new hair style, colour or cut when your pregnant![]()
