Hi, DS was sleeping thru the night and having 2 good day sleeps, but the last mnth, he is having a morning sleep, somtimes as long as 2.5 to 3hrs but then refuses to have an arvo sleep. He will then be in bed by 7pm, but wakes at 3am or so, i cave in and give him a bottle and sometimes he is awake til 5am, then he will sleep til about 7ish.. Anyone elses baby doing this, i am exhausted.. he is to young to be dropping a day sleep surely.. He was sleeping til 6am, dont know what has changed.. hope its a phase.
I was told with DD that babies often drop down to one sleep at around 12 months of age, so this is what your DS could be doing. Are you giving him a bottle at 3am as he is hungry or to get him back to sleep? No wonder you are exhausted!
my ds is 10 and a half months and was doing exactly what you're describing about 2 weeks ago. It was getting harder and harder to get him to have an afternoon nap, especially if he'd had a good morning nap. And he was starting to wake earlier and earlier in the mornings.
I experimented with one day sleep about a week ago and haven't looked back. Though this isn't the only change we have made, I believe it was one of the big things that has made a difference. It's much easier to get him to sleep for his nap and also at night, he's having fewer night wakings, is sleeping longer and it's not toooo hard to get him to have a 2-3 hour nap during the day.
For me one day sleep has actually turned out to be less hard than I thought it would. He's happier when he's awake and so am I because I'm not stressing about trying to get him to sleep (and stay that way!) all the time.
I read somewhere that sleep changes are related to developmental milestones - is your DS tracking a bit ahead in any other things? DS is a bit ahead in some developmental stuff, which is another reason I decided to give it a go.
DD is doing the same thing, but ive found it was just the change we needed, it was taking me hours to get her to sleep in the afternoon and then she was awake till 9 at night. we now have a good sleep in the morning normally 10 till 12...or later today then i give her the chance to have another sleep at about 3.15, if she doesnt sleep we have some quiet time, then she is asleep by 7.15pm with no trouble!! unfortunatley this means she is up at 5.30 which is a pain but we are slowly trying to get the morning sleep abit later, this week we are pushing it to 10.15, see how we go....hopefully eventually she will be napping later, going to bed a bit later and waking later.....see what happens.
my DS just yesterday decide dthat he didnt want to have his afternoon sleep.
and he has started waking earlier we used to wake and feed around 5-6 am then sleep again till 9-930am, now its more like 7-8am. but this has only been since he was sick last week, also he is trying to crawl properly as opposed to commando, so he does it in his sleep and wakes himself up!
