    Question Your post birth bleeding...

    Hey,
What has your post birth bleeding been like... I trying to gaije weather mine is normal or not... Or if i have my period back with out noticing...?!?

I did the heavy bleeding straight after birth for 2wks loosing lot of blood, clots and all... (maternity pads)

Then it slowed down for a couple of weeks it was just some blood in the morning by afternoon it had stopped, then would start again the next morning... (libra invisable in morning, libra panty liners during arvo/night)

But now it's gone back to period like heavy and having period like pains in the back etc... (libra regular)

So is this still post birth bleeding? Or have i got my periods back as well

Added info - I'm esclusive breastfeeding and the bleeding has't stopped for even a day...

Feels like ages ago, but I'm sure I was bleeding heavily for about 2 weeks then on and off, basically like you for about 6 weeks.

ETA: I didn't get my period back until DS was about 8 months old.

I have BF both my girls and my bleeding was 6 weeks with DD1 and 8 weeks with DD2. I found that the bleeding would seem to settle down and then when I fed it would start again.

My bleeding starting increasing again at around 3 weeks and turned out I had an infection - no other symptoms though and was cleared up with ABs. If you've any reason for concern you can call the middies at your hospital - they can tell you if there's any cause for concern.
I spose it could be af also - bad luck if it is!

I bled lots for about 5-6 days, then it gradually decreased, then increased again around 3 weeks post birth. Turns out I had some retained placenta. Not trying to scare you, but its worth getting checked out if you are concerned (they just did an ultrasound on me to see what was happening). For me, I "knew" something was wrong.

Mine just kept going with blobs for longer than 7 weeks. At 6 weeks the Dr ordered a blood test, ultrasound and swabs to make sure there was no infection but it settled by itself by about 8-9 weeks. I'm exclusive BFing as well but did have a c-section, don't know if that has anything to do with it. HTH

This sounds similar to what happened to me. My PP bleed was heavy at first, then tapered off and disappeared at 5 weeks PP, only to then return (like AF) at 6 weeks PP! I phoned my OB's office as it was right after my 6 week check up that it started again and they didn't seem too concerned. It went away again after a few days. I still don't know what it was but it seems unlikely to have been the return of AF as I never got another one, I just got preggers again when my DD was 15 months old and I was still BFing!

Good luck, I hope it stops soon and isn't AF!

I had the heavy bleeding at the start which lasted about 2-3wks, this then slowed a little but would go heavy again at times, i bled for 13wks straight after i had DD and the Dr's couldn't find why.
My internal tear was fine, had in internal U/S and nothing.. did a course of AB's and still didn't go... once it did stop i got my AF back 2 wks later and i was still b/f.
If your worried just ask your GP if it's normal.. they said mine was until it kept coming back heavy for 3-4days at a time...

    Hope it all goes soon!

Could be AF - my sister got hers at 6 weeks with no break between post-birth bleeding & AF (it had gotten very light more like spotting, then heavy again).
But it is also possible to have issues withretained placenta / infection etc up to 6-8 weeks after. Couldn't hurt to get it checked out JIC?

Cass_Blob... glad it has finally stopped for you!!!

I'm 11 days post c-section and am totally freaking out about blood loss! As if my birth experience wasn't traumatic enough (unwanted c-section but bub was breech, terrible time in postnatal ward cos i told them my bub didnt seem quite right and they told me i was paranoid and sent me a psychiatrist... and bub then ended up in neonatal intensive care cos she WASN'T WELL - thankfully home now!)!!

Obviously i was very sore post-surgery and had trouble with movement and walking/toileting etc for the first 2 days, but then felt pretty ok afterwards. Bleeding was average, like a normal period, sometimes not even that much - only needing maybe 2 maternity pad changes per day. 2 days ago i got a severe pain in my left side and some dull period like pain in the tummy and back. Thought this must have been 'afterpains'. Went to ED and they just gave me pain relief. Then yesterday i started bleeding bright red blood, like someone had turned a tap on... seriously, i thought i was going to end up with a hysterectomy or something because it was so bad.. thinking my uterus had ruptured!! I was changing maternity pads every hour, the blood would pour out when i stood up, but i had NO pain. Went to the ED yesterday and they said i had a uterine infection and prescribed me antibiotics (and the speculum exam absolutely killed... then every time i went to the loo it hurt heaps too) and have to go for ultrasound tomorrow. Bleeding continued all yesterday - no clots until last night. Because i was bleeding so much i couldn't see, but when i went to the loo i felt what seemed like a massive clot (bigger than a 50c piece) pass. I was really worried, but today there has been no bleeding or pain. It seems to be all ok. Not sure what the ultrasound will show tomorrow, but considering the pain and bleeding have all but stopped, i am hoping that continuing on antibiotics will be enough (especially since my little precious only came out of hospital 2 days ago and i have spent the weekend back and forth from the ED so i have had little time to spend with her - thank god for my wonderful DH).
