    Ducks!

It seems that a pair of wild ducks have adopted us!!!! They are in our back yard right now. They like our peppercorn tree... it has a big hole and a hollow trunk they pop in and out of. Lucky we don't have a dog/cat to threaten them.

Does anyone know if it's safe to give them small bits of wholegrain bread?

How cool if one day we see a string of ducklings emerge from the hole in the tree! HERE is a photo of the tree... will take a photo of the ducks when I can...

Yeah, they loved the bread but it might not be good for them. Is there anything better? My 3yo has chased them off now... but this is about the fourth day they have visited... I think they like it here

You should be able to get duck pellets at your local produce store. They might like veges like lettuce leaves or little bits of tomato.

Yeah I know about the poo LOL DH had a pet duck when he was in his early 20's... it shat all over the veranda. Our backyard is very "country-fied" a bit of poo won't bother us too much.

They are great for keeping down garden pests without the damage that chooks can do.

Do they eat snails!? They have been poking around the vegie patch... haven't done any damage though.

Yeah, I refuse to use snail pellets or any kind of pesticide on my vegie patch... maybe I shouldn't be spraying the roses for aphids though Maybe the ducks will eat the aphids and get sick?

Spray the roses with milky water - or just spray them off HARD with the hose. I just wipe them off myself.

I agree. You can say the word "shat" with a kind of dignity that you can't claim when you say "sh*t".... and isn't it interesting how the censor feels the same way too! LOL
