I was wondering if any of you could tell me the length of your cervix at 19 weeks, I had my scan today and it measured 2.9 which seems to be very short.
HI Lisa_75
Less than 25mm is short but greater than 25mm is fine. Its not just the length they are looking at though but also the opening (funnelling) of the cervix.
Although it has to be less than 15mm to start worrying.
Hope this helps, good luck, Tess.

: added more.
I have me cervix checked every 2 weeks. So far it has always been 3.3 until this week it was 2.5. Later I found out it depends where it is measured from. AS it turns out it is still 3.3 but the doctor said her would not have worried even if it was 2.5.
I had my cervix checked every week from 15-26 weeks. My shortest reading was 2.7cm at 22 weeks and neither the specialist or my ob were worried - of course I was freaking out though.
The following week it was back up to 3.4 or something like that.
Your cervix will shorten and lengthen right throughout your pregnancy depending on what the contractions are doing, yes you actually start having contractions from around 14 weeks surprisingly!
2.9 is still in the good zone and even if it shortens it does not necessarily mean you are going to go into preterm labour. Some women are naturally very short like 1.5 and carry full term without any problems or intervention at all.
If you are concerned and I mean really concerned then talk to your Ob and discuss whether or not you are a candidate for a suture (stitch) make a game plan like if you get down to say 1.5cm then you will go in etc. They can put a stitch in even if you are dilating so there is no real cut off point in that respect BUT they don't (or prefer not to) do them after 26 weeks gestation.
Having a stitch has helped many women but its not a sure fire guarantee and it carries its own set of risks.
Talk to your ob and do your research and remember some women start dilating at 26 weeks and carry on until 42 sometimes, just because the cervix may be shortening does not mean anything is going to start.
