Researching a new suburb to move to?

If you were moving to a new area or looking for an area to move to, what research would you do about the area first and how would you do it?
For example, does it have a high crime rate - how do you find out?
Or, What are the local schools like - how do you find out?

You can find crime statistics at myboot.
For schools you can read the education blogs in major daily for that city, google the schools and see what pops up and ring or visit the school and see what vibe you get.

I like to just ask the people who live there.

Another way to see what goes on is to subscribe to the local paper for a while. Then you can read up on the local goings on!

    Great idea lilias!

Is it a long way away for you to just visit and hand out? Maybe go and do a grocery shop or play at the park. Maybe ask here as there could be some locals that are BB members!
