    How short would you go?

I have shoulder length hair that I ALWAYS put up in a ponytail because its thick, curly and I find it so hard to manage. I have a hair appointment on the weekend for a cut & colour so I am going for one last ditch effort to see if I can live with shoulder length hair and see if I can get a decent haircut that will make it managable...

If not, I have seriously been thinking about getting it super-short cropped...like even a number 2...is that too short do you think? I don't want people to start thinking I'm recovering from cancer. But I just want to slick it down with a bit of gel and get going.. I want it to be funky...and I keep looking at Kanye West's girlfriend Amber and thinking, yeah, I like that....except I'd want my hair dark rather than blonde.

But is it tooooo short? And is chucking it up in a ponytail more managable with a baby?

i found when my hair was shorter was so much easier wash blow dry and wack some product is and have messy look or styled whatever.
now i feel flat most days as its always a pony tail.
but hubby doesnt like it short so im a hard situation

you know what try it, if you dont like it it will grow and it does grow fast
thats the only other down side to short hair more frequent trips to the hairdresser to maintain the style/ cut

I have LOTS of hair and it can be relativley curly as well, I wear mine shortish (not super shot), but I have it razor cut to have all the bulk taken out. It is so easy to blow dry and straighten into a style- my hair kinda looks like this Lisa Curry

I would do it in stages - maybe start with a short bob, then if you like that maybe go for a pixie cut (like Posh) then if youre still keen go for your shaved do! I think that way if you decide you dont like it short you havent gone the whole shebang iykwim?!

I've had my hair cipped back to a number 2 and a huge variety of short-short styles. It's so much easier to style and manage when it's short. I've never hesitated for a moment to cut huge amounts of hair off - it's only hair and it always grows back.
If your hair is pretty thick I'm guessing it grows fast too. Mine grows pretty fast which is great because if I decide I don't fancy a style I can grow it out and get a new style really soon. The down side is that keep your short style looking sharp you do need to see a hairdresser at least once every 6 weeks.
My husband always says he doesn't like this and he doesn't like that if I ask him about it so now I just go and get it done without discussing it first and he always likes it. Wjat he likes in theory and what he likes in practice are differant things lol.

I have very very thick and wavy hair......I'd had long hair for a while, then gradually got shorter and shorter. Like Ali I get my hair razor cut to take out the bulk. I have had short hair for a while now (not as short as a #2...I think you should be pretty slim for that otherwise your head looks too small for your body IYKWIM) and I'm over it and want to grow it back.

I am living overseas at the moment and don't trust that I won't end up with a bowl haircut if i go to the hairdresser here!!!

My BF at home is a hairdresser so she would always be trimming it for me....now it's just feral!

I always say to friends 'CUT IT'...it's hair...it always grows back'

My hair was down to my bum. I have thick and lots of hair. Always had it tied back or plaited. I was told i looked matronly and older than i am. I got a short bob, so got at least 40cm chopped off in the one go. I loved it. So easy. Then i wanted to go even shorter.

My hair is similar to this but brown and i love it. So easy and i look so much younger than i am and my neck looks fantastic too.

I would cut my hair to that of your image, only if i had the guts.

I think if I lived in tracky pants and tshirts then super short hair might not work, you have to keep your image a bit edgy to get away with short hair - I think if you weren't making an effort with your face and clothes you might look unwell but if you are pretty good at maintaining your makeup and clothes then I think it would work well.

I've gone as short as an inch in length and loved it. My hair is like yours - super thick and wavy and having it too long is just too much hassle. I had it to just below my shoulders but got 4 inches cut off it the other week so it's more of a bob now and it's more manageable. I don't think I would go short-short again though because it made my face look really round and I didn't like that much.

I have really thick hair and I'm now short all over - about 10cm at the longest - in the morning it is dampened in the shower, towel dried and then some product mooshed through it - no combing or anything - just finger combed if it needs it

I sooooo love my short hair! Mine is dead straight and I used to have so much trouble doing anything with it when it was longer. Now it's about 5cm all over with a longer fringe bit on the side and it's so much easier to manage - a bit of 'product' to make it stick up and it's done! Only one or two combs if it's a special occasion and away I go. I'd definitely recommend a short hair cut. And everyone is right, it IS only hair and it WILL grow back!

I've had really really short hair a few times and I love it, but I got bored with it which is probably why I used to get it dyed different colours also

The one thing I would say is not just to get it cut short but to get it styled. Big difference IMO. If it's styled properly you can let it dry naturally and use minimal product to keep it in place.
I had a shocker once that looked like a cheap barber had thought I was a 12yo boy. It was awful I think it was worse because I'd had the best ever haircut 6 weeks before but went in for a trim to find out my regular stylist had gone on holidays.

Babe do it!!! I cut all my hair off a week ago ( it was just past my shoulders and is now similar to Victoria Beckham, but not as blonde) and i LOVE it!!

It's so much easier in the mornings and always looks like i've "done" my hair now, as opposed ti just being in a pony tail and headband.

DO IT!! If you really dont like it, it will grow back and honestly wont take long at all.

    Good luck!!

I have a friend with thick wavy hair, she used to have it long and then got it cropped. Sort of like Gretels hair but done better. She never lets it get more than a few inches long now. Looks very good on her - upbeat, trendy etc.

    Question

Winter ... so how short did you end up going ? ... or rather what sort of style did you get ?

I have curly fine hair but lots of it and years ago i had the nape of my neck shaved a #2 ... geez, it was great in Summer as it dried in no time

    I chickened out!!!

I kept it at chin level and got a full head of blonde foils!!

The cut is good though so I am happy & it feels more managable.

Next time I might be braver!!

Does it look like how Madonna had her hair in the Vogue music clip (although she had it dyed blonde all over)... cause that would look awesome how YOU have it
