I am planning a home birth for our first baby (hopefully May!).
I will be using Jan Ireland as my independent midwife, and she works with another midwife also, for home births. So, there will be Jan, the other MW, and my DH.
I wouls also like a Doula, so that there is someone to support me directly (rather than the birth / baby). I have two concerns / questions:
Firstly, we live in a 2 bedroom apartment. It seems trivial, but will things be a bit, erm, squishy with me plus 4 people (and a birth pool!)? Is this a problem?
Secondly - how crucial is it that the midwives and the Doula get on well? Is it better if they have worked together before?
Just in response to your space issue. I have a 2 bedroom unit and had my dd2 in may @ home. We had my 2yo dd and 2 MW's and my DH and my Doula as well as my mum and MIL and a birth pool!! I loved it and wouldn't have had it any other way. It was a bit squishy so i went for a big walk and then laboured in the tiny kitchen with mainly my doula, then had my dd2 in the bathroom with 6 of us in my tiny bathroom.
I hope it works out for you, all the best my Midwives and doula worked as part of a lovely team.
