Am I missing when he is ready or are afternoon naps all over for us? HELP
Wow, this time I seriously don't know what I should do.
DS has always been good at going to sleep, but him into bed, walk out & he's alseep. He only started sleeping through at 2, but has since then & will go 12hrs at night only waking at 7am, with a 2hr arvo nap during the day.
Now I'm not sure what to do, the last few nights we've put him down as usual & he's getting up & switching light on & playing....the other night it was 10.30pm til he went to sleep ....he's also now waking up around 6am, even if he's had a wake up at night. Last night he woke twice!!
Also he's not going down well for naps in the arvo. He will happily hop up in bed, sometimes ask to go into bed..........but then he plays for like an hour or so. He's fast asleep now after playing til 2pm....so now I will have to wake him at 3.30pm or we will not get him to sleep tonight. But I put him in his room at 12.30pm!!!! Does he perhaps not want a nap anymore, becuase he is asleep??? thing is at around 11.30am at playgroup he grabbed his dummy and sat in my lap almost asleep, should I have taken him home....perhaps I need to get him down earlier.....oooooh I don't know what to do!
I think that the average sleep for a 2 year old is 13-14 hours in a 24 hour period so if he is going 12 hours at night, perhaps his need for day naps are ending. He is prob playing around at night as he is just not tired enough to sleep. Can you try just letting him have quiet time in his room every afternoon for an hour even if he doesn't sleep? Then he may go back to a normal bedtime. GL
yep sounds like he's getting ready to drop his sleep, DD#1 did this just after her second birthday.
It took a while to transition but we got there eventually and now its great! She has her dinner at 4:30pm, bath by 5:30pm and then she is generally asleep by 6:30pm, then sleeps for 12hrs.
If she does ever sleep in the day (like a long car trip etc) it is a nightmare to try to get her to bed at night!
Maybe try shortening his sleeps, and trying to get him to sleep earlier in the day to then ease him out of it iykwim?
Good luck, I hope it gets better soon
