    cleaning a baby mattress

    Hi all;

    So here I am, finally moved into our new house, 35 weeks pregnant and now just starting on getting everything ready for our new addition!
    At the moment trying to find ways to clean the baby mattress. The thing is that it has been in storage for 6 months (literally in a storage unit) so its been enclosed with ratsac smell, at the moment it has cat fur all over it, and two stains which are not at all sure of where they came from. Actually we dont even remember the mattress going in with stains!!!
    So my question is how do I clean it? (the only bit im fairly sure of is to vac the mattress to get the hair off)
    And would we just be better off buying a new mattress just to be on the safe side? (DH's fav option at the moment!)

    Thank you in advance

    does the cover unzip?
    i'd try hot water and some napisan as a paste and then outside for a scrub and a hose. Plenty of sunshine should get rid of the smell.

    Wink

    To be honest it would freak me out and i'd wanna buy a new baby mattress !!

    Do you mean basinette or cot mattress ?

    I machine washed our basinette mattress & dried it for days in the sun & in front of the heater too ... then stored it only to find it later on had mould spots all over it. But my mattress didn't have a cover like Kim mentioned, reckon that would help in protecting for sure.

    Thank you all so much;

    so we've decided to give cleaning it a go; although we spent the morning looking at mattresses as well.... My thinking is we are going to buy a new one, but at least if I clean the one we have up we will have a spare one for any just in case moments!

    thank you again
