Just sitting here listening to Music for Dreaming- Brahm's Lullaby by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and was wondering if anyone else uses sleep music for there children and if so what?
I find by putting it on it creates a relaxing enviroment not only for them but for me....I actually find it very calming.
There's a lovely CD called Cello Lullaby that was sold as a fundraiser for the Childrens Hospital a while back. We use that. I don't know if it's still available, though.
Yes, it was the Melbourne Children's Hospital and I see that the CD is still available from their online shop. If you google "cello lullaby" you'll find it.
I want to get some beautiful cds like those metioned. We have jsut been using a heartbeat sound since birth and DD loves it. Its of course very rhythmic which I thnk helps lull her to sleep.
I have used Tiffany Eckhardt's 'Horse' album (she's just the sweetest songwriter!), Tony O'Connor's Awakenings (which is for pregnancy and little ones - supposed to work on Chakras), Deva Premal's Gayatri Mantra (and the Moola Mantra CD is very soothing, too), and lately (cos he's older) he loves to fall asleep to The Wiggles Twinkle Twinkle, on repeat on the iPod
With the Eckhardt one (folky and sweet, very acoustic guitar-based), I listened to it before DS was born and sang to it, and then sang along to it whilst establishing breastfeeding as a newborn. When I'd play it in the car he really seemed to respond to it and settle down. Just mentioning this as a way to use the music if you've chosen music you can sing to.
We use a single song for day naps - 'Secret Garden' by Bruce Springsteen and for nighttime, we use 'Book of Secrets' by Loreena McKennitt. We like secret stuff, obviously! Never noticed that before... hmmm
We have Secret Garden on repeat on the ipod - and it can go for hours... it's the kind of song though that you don't tire of. Thank goodness!
