    What is that smell???????

i am pulling my hair out at the moment!

i have had a cold for the past week, and on the weekend DP asked what 'that smell' was... having had a bloacked nose, i didnt know there was a smell. but yeserday, i smelt it.. its in DD's room (which she hasnt slept in for about a month or two, she is in our room at the moment)

so i emptied the entire room, furniture and all. i washed everything that could possibly be washed, and i left the mattress out overnight to see if it was that - my first thought was the cat had pee'd on something he shouldn't have. but everything is washed, i closed the heater vent and left the window open a little all night....... but it still smells!

if i hadnt emptied the room out, i would have thought a dead mouse was in there somewhere, i even emptied the wardrobe.

the onl place i havent checked is the top shelf of the wardrobe, only because i dont have anything i can stand on to see up there. but i have no idea what would be up there thats stinky, there is only a tub of dd's artwork, and 3 closed boxes (the gift box type)

HELP!!!!!!!!! what the heck is the smell???

ETA: our cat has never wee'd on the carpet, could cat wee smell this bad for so long? i might grab some carpet cleaner tomorrow just in case.

If you live in QLD I'd suggest a gecko squashed in the window.

Get DP into the roof cavity to check if anything has died up there. I would also check the guttering around the windows. Not sure how to check the wall cavities. Any vents under the floor from the outside that an animal could have got it?

Take the cover vent for your ducted heating off and put on some rubber gloves and get a torch and have a look in there

do you have any flies hanging around? I had an awful smell ended up being a dead possum or rat in the ceiling - we had maggots dropping out of the downlight fixtures blergh.
