Question Not sure what it could be??

For the past couple of nights when I have been putting Bella to bed she will start screaming when I lay her down in her cot. So I pat and shhhh for 5-10 then I get her up for 5-10 and start again. But the longer she is up and the next time I go to put her down again the more agitated she gets and she will start to sob - so I get her up and try to get her to calm on my lap and try to rock her sleep but she will just scream.

She will scream laying, sitting, rocking....ect.

She does not do anything like this for her 2-3 day sleeps - so I dont think it could be because she is in pain?? Im just not sure.

It makes me so sad that she screams for like a hour to an hour and 1/2... and I cant console her.

She has 3-4 bottles (formula) a day and 3-4 meals of solids... maybe her body getting used to solids and things??

    Anyone have any ideas??
PS - she has also started tantruming if she doesnt get her way and making her intentions know - I guess she is asserting her indapendance!!

    Thanks
    Kate

I find with DS that he gets worse if he sees me. So if I put him to bed he cries for a bit, but if I go in he gets hysterical if I try to leave. If I dont go in, he just goes to sleep after a few mins. Same thing happens in the night. Last night he woke at 9.45pm and normally I'd let him resettle himself, but I'd forgotten to give him his medicine, so I went in and gave it. When I walked out I have never heard him get so worked up (in seconds) so I had to feed him to sleep. Whereas normally he would whinge then sleep if I dont show my face.

I think it's prob more a separation thing than getting used to solids. But that's just my opinion, but they do tend to realise what's going on as they get older and then start to protest.

So then it's up to you as how you want to settle him. I find for me, it works best for DS to have a cry and go to sleep (but if he was too upset I'd go and pat). For you it might be patting, rocking, feeding etc. Whatever works for you, Good luck xox

I was going to say she might have an ear infection, but then I read further and as she doesn't do it for her day sleeps, then she's probably ok. DS did the same thing for a couple of nights a couple of months ago, he was inconsolable. In the end we took him up to emergency and he had an ear infection, but no other symptoms, no fever nothing.

But with the tantrums, DS is doing that now. It's taking us up to 2 hours to get him to sleep each night and he's waking 2 or 3 times a night. He stands up in his cot screaming until I pick him up and then he's perfectly content and so I end up rocking him to sleep and putting him back down. The last few weeks I have spent sleeping in the rocking chair next to his cot! His day sleep is pretty good though.

It's hard to work out what's wrong and what to do though. In the last couple of days, I've just succumbed to it and get up to him, rock him to sleep and go back to bed until the next time.

maybe she just knows that she is going to be a long time without Mummy.
Molly Jane did something similar at that age. so i would tend to agree that it is a separation thing.
I just spent loads of time on the lead up to bed telling her that it was bed time and making sure that she was settled before i left the room. we had a very set pattern before bed so that she got all the cues that it was bed time.
Sometimes it would be over an hour, sometimes more.
I guess it depends what you want to do. We started bringing her in to sleep with us for bad nights, other times i would lay with her until she went to sleep them put her in her cot.
If you are worried that it may be the food, try feeding her earlier.
Mj use to get terrible pain from corn on the cob, or corn kernals...
i took her dinner time back to 4.30pm and bed at 7pm and this helped, slowly i bought her meal times forward so that we now have dinner at about 5.45 or 6pm most night and is still in bed by 7.30ish.

I've just succumbed to it and get up to him, rock him to sleep and go back to bed until the next time.
we did that too... MJ is now sleeping most nights all through the night and goes to sleep most nights after a story and then i leave her awake in her room. it has taken a while, but i have been happy doing it this way, it hasnt been horrific for her (CIO) and although i was tired for a while it was the method i was most comfortable with... MJ knew that if she needed me, cos she was scared, lonely, hungry or in pain i would be there for her.
It might take a while to get throu this phase, but it does ends... its just devestating when you can stop them crying i know....

Have you tried whispering in her ear? i found that sometimes this would help settle her as she would want to know what i was saying... or i would kiss her foot, then leg, then belly, then arms etc etc telling her about it all the time. its worked sometimes (i wouldnt usually do this one in the middle of the night, but sometimes before bed.
Oh another thing i tried was to hold her hand, this worked too at times, i would put her down and hold her hand and sing/read until she was sleep then turn out the light, still holding her hand and once she was asleep i would leave.

Dont know if any of these have helped, i am just writting as i think.
I hinestly kow what you are going through, it does get easier thou
