GAIA Natural Baby Skin Soothing Lotion - New product - smaller and cheaper

Note that the information in this post is incorrect. The 100ml product is listed as a new product on Gaia's website at a lower price than the 250ml bottles.

We've been fans of this company and their products for the past two years. I've recommended their products to all I meet and have purchased loyally this entire time, even when their products went up by $2 in a very short period of time... until today!

I went to buy some Gaia Natural Baby Skin Soothing Lotion and discovered that they've changed the packaging. No worries, until I read the label. They have now changed the amount in the pack from 250ml to 100ml. Less than half!!! And they haven't lowered the price!!!

I thought, maybe they've just forgotten to change over the tag on the shelf to the new pricing, so I came home and checked their website. Nope! There is a whole heap of rubbish about how wonderful the new package is, but nothing about how they're robbing us blind by charging the same price for less then half the amount of product.

I'm sorry, but that's just greedy in my opinion and far too hard to swollow. I'll be voting with my $$$ and will no longer by ANY of their products unless the price is brought inline with the new sizing.

Really?!?! That's rude!! I love Gaia products too.... hmmm might have to re-think buying them again if they are going to do that.... what about the bath and body wash? We use that more than anything in that range.....

I will still buy it if i need as it is the only stuff i like! But it is a real shame though

I just went to their site - they have a survey there, a bit long, but you could always let them know that way as well? Especially if everyone on BB and their friends did it, they'd hafta take notice!

That sucks.
We use Natural Instinct. The ingredients are very similar to gaia but it's cheaper. They have baby stuff, but we just use the regular ones - don't think there's much difference really, except the baby stuff comes in smaller packages and works out more expensive.

Celsie, I recommend you email them and ask them about it. There's always a chance that they brought out a new size which is supposed to be cheaper, but the shop didn't change the label or put the wrong product in that spot on the shelf. It would be a shame for the manufacturer (who do make great products!) to be publicly criticised for a mistake made by a retailer.

I'm not saying that this is the case, but if it was me, I'd want to check it out first.

I used Aromababy. We were happy with their ingredients.

speaking just about brands easily available in the supermarket, i notice

- Avado at Coles (australian and organic, look for yellow bottles)

- Ecostore at Woollies and IGA (white bottle, NZ and organic)

outside the supermarket, there are heaps on Websites.

Natural Instinct i'm boycotting until they sort themselves out, as they got caught for false advertising (saying they were SLS free, when they weren't).

i'm avoiding
- parabens (cheap preservative that causes many to have skin irritations)
- SLS (just to make more bubbles)
- perfumes
- colours
that's all i can remember for now.

and for hand sanitisers, most have around 60% alcohol! very flammable, and can you imagine what would happen if a baby licked it? hello, alcohol poisoning. there is an australian brand called HANDS FIRST that makes a zero alcohol hand sanitiser. i started buying it at woollies, now they don't stock it, so i go to the hands first site, and request the stockists for my postcode, go and buy it at a nearby chemist/healthfood shop. I feel safe having it around my child and my hands no longer go red raw. so it's a win win.

for disposable baby wipes, the only supermarket ones i would consider safe are the Nature babycare ones. (the rest have propylene glycol as major ingredient, or SLS in the curash ones).

This is the kind of thing they've had on Today Tonight fairly recently! Where the cost doesn't go down but the product sizes are shrinking! IT'S BS!!!
