    Office hidden in a wardrobe...

I know its not an entirely original idea, but I want to turn an old freestanding wardrobe into a fold away office. I really need somewhere to stash all my paperwork, filing, ideally my pc too (), printer, etc, etc. I just want to be able to put away the business stuff, and at the moment, its on the kitchen bench, the pc is on a little desk under one end of the kitchen bench, and all quite shocking. We are short of room, and the kitchen, lounge/living and dining is all in one room.

Has anyone done something like this? Or seen it done? Any advice? And maybe on what I can do with the bookshelf full of books that is where I want to put it!

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, mods feel free to move it. I was tossing up between here and hobbies!

ive seen on tv these things and i think its great, you would probably have to get an electrician out to fit things but i recon it could work perfectly the shelving could be above your head and i think the chair can sit in the room in the corner maybe a nice chair. or you could do what LOVE and that take the all where the door is and make that area into a bookcase

Could you dismantle the bookshelf for parts and use it to make shelves inside your wardrobe to put your books and papers on?

I think for the desk part I'd either be creating a fold-out desk with hinges and fold-away legs, or just installing a heavy duty shelf with a slide-out keyboard tray. if you work from a laptop you could make the slide-out tray big enough to hold a closed laptop. That way you have the shelf to hold printers/screens/etc. A hole cut into the back of the wardrobe would allow power/telephone/network cables or anything else needed.

I think the slide-out or fold out shelf is important ergonomically as it will allow you to slide your chair in to a comfortable position when working, and you then still have all the space in the bottom section of the wardrobe to be able to add storage - more shelves or filing cabinet-type storage.

Good luck with it! Would LOVE to see your project when it's done =)

Thanks, I'd love to show it, but I'm not so sure now if I'll make it. The wardrobe I was eyeing off ended up being too expensive, and the Man didn't like it because its old fashioned, and nothing in our house is. Oh well...

The bookshelf is fairly new, so I don't really want to take it apart, a mid brown laminate, and the Man suggests I get a new wardrobe/cupboard that matches that (we have a few other things that are the same laminate) and make that into my desk.

my current home/office is a cupboard from Freedom. Our beautiful boy took over our office, but as I work from home, I really needed a desk, so I found this one.
