Hi everyone. Sorry but am about to have a whinge.
I know my bub isn't as bad as some babies but I am feeling really uncertain even though D is my second.
Here's the story. D is 10 weeks old. She has been diagnosed with reflux and is on 8 mg of losec a day. She wasn't responding to 3.5 mg so she has just had it increased. I am also concerned with a possible food intolerance. She is on NAN HA at the moment but I have dairy and gluten intolerances. She has a lot of belly ache and cries a lot, pulling her knees up to her tummy. Her poos are also a bit acidic and she screams when she does them.
How long should it take for the increase in losec to work? She has been on losec for 3 weeks now but only the increase for 2 days.
Pead also gave me a tin of neocate to try if the losec doesn't work. Only problem is it is a sample tin and I think it will only last about 3 days and I don't go back to see the pead till the 19th and I don't want to have to put her back on cow's milk formula if the neocate is working.
Anyone else been in a similar situation? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
It sounds like you have had a very tiring few weeks. A friend of mine has a baby with a large number of food allergies and intolerances and found the neocate made a huge difference. You should be able to get a script from a GP for more if you need it before you see the paed. I'd give it a try to see what happens.
My DD has a milk protein allergy, food intolerance's and eczema. Our allergist and pediatrician put him straight onto Elecare, which is an alternative formula to Neocate, but has the same ingredients and is hypoallergenic. He had the same symptoms as your baby (with leg pulling and crying when pooing). As you have food intolerances and there is a milk allergy in your family, I would not be surprised if your DD has it as well. When my DD went onto Elecare it took 2 weeks to see a difference but 4 weeks for him to be a totally different baby. Keep milk totally out of your babies diet for at least 2 weeks and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks for the help.
Here is an update. Out of desperation last week we put buby of neocate. After 3 days we noticed a significant change. She is happy now which is great. Still has reflux and cries when that hurts but doesn't scream for hours on end anymore. She still gets belly ache but nowhere near as bad or as often. Poos are improving still some acidic ones with curd like lumps in them but I figure it might take a while for her gut to repair.
Now if the pead will increase her losec we might have a very happy baby.
