Going to look at a house to rent today! Wish us luck...
After almost a month of trying to get the real estate agent to contact us via email and phone, we finally went up to the office yesterday and asked if we could apply for a house we've been drooling over online. Of course, we were told that we can't do so until we actually go see it with the agent, so we're doing that today.
The house we want is pretty much just up the main road from where we are now, but sort of into a countryish kind of area... Bit hard to explain, the suburbs just suddenly seem to drop away as you drive there. Only $250 a week, massive house and land! If I remember right it's just across the road from a stud farm. It seems perfect for us.
One downfall is that the only source of heat is a wood heater, but we've made do where we are now with no built in heating at all, so we're not too fussed about it. We're both pretty up to speed on fire safety so it shouldn't be a problem.
Another couple of points concern our dog Angel. She's been an inside dog her entire life (I wanted her outside from day one but our current landlady couldn't get it through her head that Angel wasn't yardbroken before we brought her home) and as such goes a bit mental when she's outside, running around sniffing everything in sight. There are apparently other animals kept on and near the property, who Angel might annoy with her "cute" technique of running circles around them trying to get them to play.
In the photos I've seen, the fences don't look very capable of keeping her in. I know she'd learn pretty quickly not to but I worry that she might get through them in the first few weeks and something bad will happen to her.
ANYWAY, away from the bad points - I'm really excited to be going to see this house today. After living in a shed for two years it'll be lovely to live in an actual house again, one that's just for me and DH. To be able to set up a room for our baby (Hopefully - DH assumed baby would be sleeping in our room where I thought he/she would be separate. We'll see how the house is set out before making a decision.)
