Blake's got really dry skin all of a sudden (it's been working up to it for the last fortnight) on his face and (this has come up in the last week) on his body. I haven't changed anything in the past week or so. (Minimal detergent as I wash his MCNs with his clothes often to make up a load - has a deep rinse cycle). The dry skin isn't in the nappy area but is nearly everywhere else.
He does have a bit of cradle cap which is slowly disappearing (tried baby oil, MooGoo scalp cream, and olive oil) but it seemed to migrate slowly onto his forehead (before trying the Moo Goo scalp cream) and then down the edges of his cheeks (closest to his ears).
The dry skin doesn't seem to bother him - although DH is a bit concerned. I put some MooGoo MSM cream after DS's bath each time and when I change his long sleeve body suit for bed on the nights he doesn't have a bath but it doesn't seem to have done much. I thought I'd try something different last night instead and tried to use sorbolene cream and DS started screaming as soon as I tried to rub it in so that came off reasonably quickly with the face washer and the MooGoo went on instead. I did put a little olive oil afterwards on a spot near his chin on his chest to see if that would help as that spot was starting to get scaly like his forehead and cheeks. (I eventually ended up using olive oil on his scalp & forehead to ease the scaly-ness of the cradle cap as I wasn't getting to putting on the Moo Goo scalp cream often enough and the MSM cream wasn't appearing to do much. The olive oil seemed to settle the forehead a fair bit, just over night though).
His back and chest seem to be dry and looks a bit patchy in it's dryness. It almost looks like a rash but I'm not sure. It doesn't appear to annoy DS so not quite sure there.
Any suggestions to help moisturise his skin??? tried the Gaia moisturisers this morning and they don't seem to have done much either.
Not sure that I can offer much but a it's horrible when you keep trying stuff and it doesn't work. When my DD gets a bit of dry skin I've just used a bit of sorbolene and it worked no worries but sounds like your DS may have a rash or some sort of irritation to me but I'm no doc?? Again when my DD had a bit of cradle cap I used the Johnsons baby oil which worked as well. Are you combing through the oil in his hair?? I found that combing the oil through DD's hair in all directions helped to 'work' it in and it worked faster. Other than that the only other creams I can suggest would be maybe the Lansinoh cream which is what you use when b/feeding it says it can be used on rashes but not sure how good it is??? Great cream I use is Am-o-lin cream which is a bum cream but works really well and fast and I use it on my really dry hands (from washing them all the time ), so you can give that a go?? You can just buy the Am-o-lin from Safeway/Woolworths or the Chemist my MCHN recommended it and it's all I use now on her butt and my hands
Dunno if any of that helps, but maybe as you've tried a lot of creams I'd give maybe 1 or 2 more diff creams a go and go to the doc.....if that I'm a paranoid mum!!
Thanks for that softy - am currently trying pawpaw cream on his face. If that works, will try it on the rest of his body. Apparently that worked for DH's boss when they had dry skin issues. If it doesn't at least DS smells really yummy.
Next step if it doesn't work will be to try the lanisoh (have some that I don't need anymore ) and if that doesn't then I'll head off to buy & try the Am-o-lin cream. (the Moo Goo MSM cream works really well on DS's butt but doesn't seem to do much elsewhere . Although it has seemed to keep the slightly dry skin on his legs to a minimum but we've been creaming them most days anyway for a month or so before anything else appeared.)
The cradle cap is nearly all gone this morning - I must have missed a small spot last night when combing in the oil after using a cotton ball to put it on.
