I have a major problem. My 2yo dog keeps attacking my 3mo pup. The poor thing has scabs all over his face and as of 5 minutes ago is missing a chunk of his ear. Sometimes it is over food, other times there is no motive, he just lashes out without warning or provocation. I'm at a loss as to what to do.The thing is, my dog is a mini poodle and the pup is a shar pei. When Aries (the shar pei) is fully grown he'll be 3 times the size of the other one and it probably won't be a problem then but in the mean time he is being torn to shreads! I don't want to give up my dog (mainly because he is Lily's and it would break her heart) but i'm not sure there is another solution. What should i do?
sounds definatly like a dominance issue.
your older dog ill ALWAYS be the boss, no matter what.
Always feed your older dog first to show him/her they are the dominant one BUT ake them wait until you say it is ok to eat, feed them seperatly, shar-pei are fighting dogs, and ys they will fight.
are they de-sexed? what sex are both dogs??
when your older dog goes the younger and you are home...go out stop them and get you older dog and you dominate him/her by placing them on their side 'growling' at them until they are still laying there and they know you mean it....
other than that i would suggest a water squirter...and squirt them when they have little niggles.
