My DS of 12 weeks is doing quite a strange thing. I have noticed of late that he will only look the one way most of the time. He definately can turn and look the other way but tends not to. Should I start encouraging him to lay on me when cuddled with his neck the other way and also when cradle held as well??
Not sure why bubs do this, but they do. My DS was the same - always to the left.
I would probably try and encourage him to look the other way to, by lying down next to him on the side he doesn't use much, etc - but don't stress too much about it either .
My DD used to do the same and started to get a flat spot on that side. The MCHN told me to put things of interest on the side she didn't turn. I did and it made her turn that way more. Once she started rolling and supporting her neck more she started turning the other way more. It could be a good idea to go to the doc though, or perhaps a chiro that deals with bubs, sometimes babies have stress or slight damage in their muscles from birth and a bit of manipulation can help it.

Yes I would. put toys on the other side of him, or move him to the opposeite end of the cot.
You might also try a physio/chiro/osteo as it can often be something thats very easy to treat if indeed there is need to treat it.
My MCHN told me that all babies will favour one side of their neck to the other and that they will sort it out themselves. My DD favoured one side and her head got quite flat, so I would say just do some re-positioning to look at things and the other side will become just as strong after a while.
