Wink The great debate - WDYT?

Ok, DH and I have had this issue where we can't agree on who should be responsible for checking HIS pockets for used tissues etc before they go in the washing machine?? I got caught out again today with tissue through a load of washing!!

He thinks it's my job to check his pockets as I'm the one putting them in the machine..

I think it's his job as they're his pants and his responsibility....

Petty, I know, but what do you ladies think???

i'd say it's his responsibility (and i DO say this to DH) - and i wouldn't wash his pants til there is enough to fill a load (do this too) - if there is a tissue in the pocket, it's only his clothes that cop it and he has to clean it up!

Well I say it really should be his - but having said that I'm a bit of a control freak so I always check anyway.

*shrugs* we're both responsible. He needs to clear his pockets out but I'm not going to risk ruining a whole load of washing if he's forgotten. We're only human so both of us forget sometimes.

I asked my DH and he says "buy hankies"

I check pockets before washing but I get to keep any money I find

This is my advice for you

    Get yourself a piggy-bank
Set it up next to the washing machine
Make it your job to check DH's pockets
Finders Keepers - all coins / money found in pockets go to washing lady's piggy bank (I generally give back notes greater than $10 )
Have yourself a lovely time using that money on exactly what you want!!!

This works for me! Last time I emptied the piggy bank there was $90 in there for me!!
I figure that DH can check his pockets while trying to salvage his money!

I don't give back more than $10 - if it's left in the pocket it's mine (unless Yasin gets it first - the little monkey is a hoarder and he's figured out that dirty clothes are a money mine ) .

I prefer hankies too - I think they're easier on the nose and the environment but DH is a tissue man.

Ah well, I'd say its their pocket, their responsibility and if I do washing and forget to check thats my excuse (although mostly I am fishing tissues out of my own pocket as I load tha machine LOL so I check so I don't get caught out myself!)
BUT I do check mostly because a) redoing clothes because of a stray tissue is a PITA, no matter where it comes from and b) stray money is MINE to do with whatever I want mwahahahahaha

mine never checks... though it's not tissues that are the problem... it's the missing car keys, house keys, mobile phone, wallet.... normally i can tell by how heavy the pockets are but if it's one thing re the car key that doesn't jingle.

it drives me batty because he is the SAH but i still do the washing, least he could do is sort his stuff out.

well i guess I'm a tyrant. If it's not in the laundry basket, it don't get washed and his pockets, his responsibility. Though obviously if I can tell there's something in the pocket, I'll take it out. DP does have a habit of throwing his pants into the laundry basket without taking the belt off them so I just don't wash them until he's taken the belt off. To be fair, until very recently, it actually hurt me to stand so any extra time standing - ie. to remove a stupid belt - was painful not to mention frustrating.

Yep I'm with Fiona - his responsibility. Though we use hankies only....Several mobile phones have been through the wash, but he always seems to remember to take the money out

    I hate hankies!

It's DH's responsibility to check pockets and put dirty clothes in the wash basket. Although I also check his pockets and pick up things on the floor if I'veonly got a part-load.

Any money is mine. Any keys, wallets etc are put back in the pockets when the clothes are dried. Watch DH freak out! Fewer keys these days. But the wallet about once a year. Even after one was washed and tumble-dried by DH!

Dh does the (adult) washing mostly...so its usually me who leaves the manky tissues in the pockets

Tissues aren't our problem, but pens definitely are! I've had a couple go through the wash but no leaks thank god! I've told my DH HE has to check his pockets, and if he leaves something in there & it gets ruined it's his fault. So if that means giving me $100 to go & buy more clothes for myself because HE can't get out the ink stains so be it!

I think it's his clothes, he has a better idea of what he's put into his pockets that day, he knows what he should take out. It's a PITA checking pockets!

I'm lucky. DH checks. I've almost washed my phone once - it fell out as I was putting my jeans into the machine and I hadn't and wasn't going to check.

However, I have washed the USB stick I used to use for work on a couple of occasions... Tumble dried it once, too. It still works, not that I have any idea of where it is now - but I checked it on work computers first so I wouldn't blow mine up!

Oh I hate that! It's definately HIS responsibility!

BTW I also hate it when DH throws his socks in the basket all gathered up. When you're putting the washing on you should just be able to throw everything in, you shouldn't have to spend ten minutes making sure pockets are empty and socks are unstuffed!
