    Question NT scan result question

    Hi there,
I had my 12 week scan on Friday and my BT a few weeks ago. Anyway, I had my scan in the morning and called my GP that afternoon to find out the combined blood test and scan result. I was told that both the scan results and BT results looked good but that they can't tell me a result for 2 weeks as they send it into the childrens hospital to be calculated.

Now all the other girls in my BB group got their results quickly and so did I for my last 2 pregnancies. I did go private the other times though and this time have gone public - is that why it takes so long.
Why is it taking 2 weeks?
If anyone could shed some light on this for me I'd really appreciate it!

I really don't know if going private would affect the time frame, but I am sure they would not have told you everything was fine if it wasn't.
Try not worry in the meantime

The private/public thing is probably one of the reasons for the delay. Although because you had your bloods donw two weeks before I am pretty sure your gp could have rung up and asked for the results to be faxed through. Methinks perhaps he is being a bit lazy and waiting for the snail mail notification. We had our nuchal scan done at the freemasons womens imaging centre and they had they the combined results faxed back to them on request within an hour...we just waited there

Squidipa, In Vic the genetics unit is based at the Royal Childrens...all nuchal scan stuff, amnios etc is processed by them. In each state there is one place that processes all that sort of genetic testing.....

Private vs public doesn't impact the speed at which the results are composed, as all results (in Vic) are done at the one place. First trimester screening requires a private Ob or a GP to fill in the paperwork so it is kinda always done privately (in that public hospitals don't organise it).

I had similar issues with delays and was also p1ssed off. I believe it is due to GPs not knowing, or being too lazy, to follow up the results soon after the scan. If the blood test is performed a week before the scan, and the sonographers send the results to GHSV (or the appropriate State clinic), you should have the results within a day or two of the scan.

However, it is good that they let you know that both your measurements look good so far. Hope they don't take long for the risk figures.

Thanks all - so let me get this right....In Vic, all scan and BT results are sent to the RCH where they calculate the result. The reason why some people get them soon and others wait weeks depends on whether the Dr follows it up??

Okay- so I rang back and hassled the Drs office and found out that they were actually meaning it takes 2 weeks from the BT NOT 2 weeks from the scan. And they did have the results now! The receptionist sounded annoyed at me, but it's not my fault if they aren't clear.

So my results were all good!!!

I went public Carrie and I got my results same day. I really don't thing it has anything to do with which system you go with.
