Unhappy Its not getting any better - we need help!

Ok so first Miss M was waking during the night around midnight and took about 2 hours to go to sleep. Not too bad if we went to bed around 10ish, then got woken up, and then we would still sleep from 2 -6. Not a problem.

Now - she wakes up at any time from 11pm or midnight - and doesn't go back to sleep until at least 4am. During this time she screams, cries, whinges, switches to being happy and wanting to play - and its driving us nuts!!!

I need more than 2 hours sleep a night. Even 4 would be better. This morning I am so tired that I feel like vomiting.

My mum told me to give her some panadol when she is like that. But every time I do give her panadol or nurofen (thinking it could be her teeth), it seems to perk her up and she's awake for more hours.

Last night (well early this morning) was our worst night in a while. I mean, every night is bad, but we used to get at least 2 hours sleep in a row (4am to 6am). Last night, I don't think we got any sleep before she woke up - and then I went out of the bedroom at 1.30 to go to the toilet and she just screamed muuuuummmmy muuuuummmy, even though DH was holding her at the time. We then put her into bed with us (and moved DS over to the other side of the bed) and she lay there for about half an hour, and I thought she was going to go to sleep, but nope, then she started jumping around on our heads, giggling - things like that. So DH moved her into the cot again - and she started screaming again.

Eventually he went out to the loungeroom at 3am and she fell asleep on his chest. Of course then I was so overtired that I couldn't actually get any sleep, so I had just fallen asleep when he came back in at 4.45am. He tried to put her in the cot to keep sleeping, and she woke up and started screaming again. He couldn't settle her down, so took her back out to the loungeroom - and she fell asleep on his chest again. Then finally I fell back asleep and DS woke up at 6am.

What is wrong with her? And what can I do??!?!? We have her in the cot next to our bed with the side down, so its like she is sleeping with us, but its not good enough. Pain relief makes her even more awake.

Last night DH suggested Phernegan (sp?) and I know he's not serious, but oh man, the thoughts that run through your head at the time!! I wanted to shove her in the cot and push it to her bedroom and was tempted to let her cry it out (which I never wanted to let her do as I feel I destroyed DS as a baby for doing that because I didn't know any better way of parenting).

We try everything, and nothing is working. I need sleep. DH needs sleep.

    Please help me

why don't you try the Rescue Remedy Sleep? KL had a lot of success with that, and I know those ingredients would most likely chill her out a bit xoxoxoxo

Mel big hugs...I dont know what it is but it just seems to happen at this age. Olivia did the same thing and unfortunately she lasted from Janurary til I would say....Novemeber last year when all the sudden she decided she could sleep ( a few weeks before her sister was born!). Its terrible, especially when your pg. Dont worry i was up for the phenergan too...but you cant get it!!! I was so desperite. I went to sleep school, did nothing. We just let her scream for a while...not that that worked. Maybe try the rescue remedy....or go to the gp and tell them shes not sleeping...is it teeth? just trying to flush some ideas out....good luck hun

We used a combination of a sleep spray from Healing Hippo (I don't know if they still exist, but you can get one from Body Shop too) and Brauers Calm. It was just enough to help Z get to sleep & stay relatively calm overnight.

The other thing I can think of is seperation anxiety, I think J is going through it at the moment. When we are in her room, even if not holding her she is fine, but the second we leave she screams. Not sure what to do about that yet.

Otherwise, no idea hun, just lots of hugs. It's only been in the last six weeks that Z (at 4.5 years) has started sleeping all night.

Lulu I didn't know you could give it to kids??? Whooo hoo!!!

Oh Mel I dunno. Chloe did the same thing to me when she was around 18 months and it killed me (and I wasn't pg!!) and that was when I joined BB.

Maybe give Lulu's remedy a shot??

Sending loads of I feel for you and your DH. Does your DD have any sleep through the day? Does she have a sleep in the evening? Does she like any toys that she can play with when she is awake, but will keep her amused in her cot? Is she on the bottle? If so there is a forumla in the Novalac range that helps with sleep called sweet dreams, if you want to have a look at the website . The only reason why I know about that ones is I have seen it before, as I buy the Novalac constipation one for my little V.
I know some little bubba girls dont like the dark, when they are awke, so if you have a nightlight maybe that might help. However I know with my little V if she sees the light on at night she tries her hardest not to sleep, so I need to have it darker for her, whereas my older two dont like the dark they like to have some light. Thankfully I have a dimmer so it helps my older two, but doesnt affect bubba V so much, however I still need to have V facing away from it.
For her bath have you tried the bedtime bath, sure its Johnsons & Johnsons brand, as well as giving her a bit of a massge when putting moisturiser on her skin after her bath, before her bedtime.
I hope some of my ideas help, GL hun.

    Thanks guys.

Lulu - I will try the rescue remedy - I'm willing to do anything.

Minimatron - I don't know if its her teeth? She has got all of her teeth now except for the eye teeth and her 2 year molars, so it could be her eye teeth I suppose, but it doesn't look like it when I look in her mouth.

Sarah - thanks, I will try the brauers stuff as well - oh, and DS is nearly 3 and still doesn't sleep through, but at least he doesn't party all night long!!

Bec - thanks - I'll be sure to show you the big grey shadows under my eyes on sunday

CSAB - we don't have formula anymore - she's just on cows milk and has been for a while now. Oh, and we don't use J & J stuff either - just moogoo milk in her bath. We have a night light in our room, but its not terribly bright or anything but maybe its just bright enough? I dunno....

ETA - oh and she has a day sleep from around 10.30/11.00 to around 1.30/2.00pm. Then she has her bottle at 7pm and usually falls asleep on it. If she doesn't fall asleep on it, we put her to bed at 8.30. Every night is the same though, so unfortunately it doesn't matter what time she goes to sleep at night. I can't drop the day sleep or anything because she really really needs it still.

We've tried Brauers Calm, but you have to remember to start giving it to them well before bed time and I'm a bit hopeless at that.

We used to give DS a drink of chamomile tea.. he loved it!

We've got rescue remedy sleep.. but it just tastes like brandy. LOL. (think we've talked about the alcohol in that in another thread )

Hope you get some sleep soon *hugs*

A drop of lavender oil in the bath will have the same effet as the J & J (without the icky bits) and you can also put the Rescue Remedy sleep in the bath too...

Oh Mel, big big first of all. What a nightmare.
We tried phenergan on Beth when she had chicken pox.... it seems she was one of those babies that doesn't get sleepy on it but goes a little bit manic! The doctor did warn us a small percentage of babies did that !
I am guessing you already have a teething necklace, and have tried just about every gentle method known to man. You could try wrapping her, it might at least stop her from beating you up.
I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest you talk to your GP and ask if he can actually prescribe you a sedative for her. Just for a few nights so you can get some sleep. I know it might seem extreme but this is desperate and you need to sleep. GL hun hope it improves for you. xxxx

Yeah I can definately vouch for the Rescue Remedy it was awesome. Also mel, we have just figured out with Ava that the pink nurofen perks ava up instead of settling her down. Think she's allergic to the colouring kwim. So we went on to the sugar free and color free nurofen and stopped having that problem it was really good.

Oh Mel, here's me complaining this morning that I"m tired cause my 10 week old woke more than usual overnight for a feed I do understand though cause we had issues with DS1. Doesn't sound like much fun at your place at the moment..

I would definitely try the Calm, we used it with DS and it did help some. But like Liz said you need to start giving it about 2 hours before bed. Then I would give it again when she wakes (can't remember exactly but I think you can give a dose every 1/2 hour initially then another 4 doses in the next 24 hours or something like that) Not sure about the RR, never used it.

I think you need to try and work out if at this point it's just habitual/behavioural waking (ie she just wants mummy and daddy) or if she's in pain?

If nurofen isn't helping, I'd try panadol or teething tabs to try and rule out her teeth.

I hope it passes soon, you must be exhausted being so prg

    Oh poor you!!!

My friend has a little bubba who does something similar and they have two double beds set up in different rooms and alternate who co-sleeps with her. That way at least one parent is getting some sleep on alternate nights. Not sure if this would help (especially if she is a mummy's girl) but it could get you through the next week or so until you can think of something else.

HTH and that you get some rest!!!!

Lulu - how much RR can you put in the bath?

Pix - I dunno if I want to go down the road of drugging her ya know? I sorta feel that she has a problem, something wrong with her, and I just wanna find out what it is, and worried that drugging her would just be masking a problem.

KL - yeah we use the sugar free/colour free nurofen here too. Will try the RR though thanks.

Boomba - we all have the same music playing in our rooms - well when she was actually in her room!! and have since her birth, so its definitely familiar. I could give her a massage though, we do worry that her legs are cramping at night because she is learning to walk, so maybe her muscles are a bit more sore. What is the best stuff to massage with? I have Gaia massage oil here and also some almond oil.
