GP or not?

Sam's not well at the moment. We're talking a lot of snot (clear) and judging from the way he sounds and the way DH and I feel (we've all got it), a very sore throat. He has a bit of a cough, but not really very often. He gets the occasional mild fever and gets grizzly when he's hot but settles with panadol and some mummy love.

Is it worth taking him to the doctor just to be told to continue doing what I'm doing? I'm thinking that there's not really much more that can be done for a 10 month old and the clear snot implies no bacterial infection so antibiotics are pointless. I'm just not up for being out of the house if it can be avoided - I don't like sitting around in doctors waiting rooms with my compromised immune system, especially when I've already got a cold myself.

DD has been like this allot over winter. I never took her unless i thought she was getting worse or the snot turned green.
Totally get where your coming from with not wanting to go out.
Have you tried a vapouriser? Or steam in the bathroom??

If it were me, I wouldn't take them to the Dr, if he's already run down you dont want to be sitting in a waiting room full of sick people and have him catch something worse. he doesn't seem like hes all that sick kwim and if he's coping well enough with panadol and mummy love then he should be fine

Have you got some fess nose spray and the aspirator? I dosed DS up all winter with it, and it helps a little bit. A squirt of the fess, then wait 5 minutes, then use the aspirator to suck out the snot... keeps the nose clear for feeding and bottles...

And some euky bear rub on his feet at night, with sox, helped for DS too...

I personally would not go to the DR, unless you think he has an infection (ear or throat), as there is not a lot they can give... Hope you all clear up soon. xo

Thanks everyone. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being a bad mummy by not taking him, even though I know there's nothing that can be done.

We've got the fess going, but the snot is running pretty freely so not using it much. He screams blue murder if we so much as wipe his nose so I'm not getting the aspirator into action unless DH is home to help.

He's back to his normal, mischievous self after the panadol, so I think we'll be right.
