Hey everyone as it's coming into summer and as my DD seems to teeth FOREVER but not get teeth and wont chew teething rings was trying to think of some cool and refreshing ideas.
Just wondering what you use or freeze for a little one during summer?
I was thinking the following:
* Freeze chunks of watermelon - any other fruits?
* puree watermelon, pineapple and apple etc and freeze into ice cube trays (half fill) so they are small enough for her to hold and pop in her mouth as a refreshing treat.
* using the baby juice and water and making her some little icy poles but not sure bout the sugar?
Not 100% sure on anything else, please let me know what you do or are thinking of doing?
we use the juice tubes iykwim, you don't need to open them if you are worried about sugar just get the cheap ones and let her munch away to provide some relief.
I used to puree fruit with plain natural yogurt and I bought ice block things from Woollies for $2.00... I used to Do mango, banana and yogurt icy pole which worked wonders for teething & sore throats. When I found out they were allergic to milk, I changed it to straight fruits pureed with some water.
black_rose - thanks i never thought to leave a normal icy pole in the wrapper, do their teeth break through?
Jodi - do you cut it into chunks and freeze it, do you leave it in the freezer or do you just throw it in for 30min or so?
Christy - ohh sounds nice, she wasn't a fan of the plain natural yoghurt but if i mix in fruit and freeze it, did you just use ice cube trays or the icypole things?
How did you give it, just in the high chair and let them make a mess?
I have a feeling she's going to love it, am thinking on the hot days this week might throw chunks of watermelon in the freezer for say 20-30min before she has them and let her go at it!
I am not a HOT weather person but want to try and make it as comfortable as possible for her without having to change her diet too much or include too much sugar.
Do you think the baby juice watered down would be ok for something slightly different?
Frozen watermelon - yummo, now that's what I feel like right now
Please don't give her ice-cubes, even half filled ones, they are such a choking hazard. I was told soak and squeeze a face washer in her water and freeze / stick in fridge and give to chew on as a suggestion by someone.
My Mum used to freeze oranges cut into quaters for us. It is still a big hit for both my sister and I. When they first come out the freezer, they're hard and slowly mush.
Thanks mother goose, a friend suggested that aswell... Oh and the other a friend suggested i can't quite use with DD as waiting to confirm an allergy is:
Cut a banana in half length ways, then in half again width wise, throw it in a freezer bag for 20-30min and then instant teether or for summer cooler!
I should make a list of suggestions for people to see easily.
Sas85 have tried the face washer but she wont take it, she refuses anything that anyone has suggested is for actual teething purposes... lol cheeky girl.
Also i want something she can use/eat for relief in summer.
With the frozen fruit etc everyone have you had any problems with choking, ie. the yoghurt etc?
? Freeze chunks of watermelon, mango, banana
o Banana, cut in half length ways, then in half width wise and freeze in sticks.

? If you use it mix baby juice and water and freeze freeze into ice cube trays / icypole makers
? use the juice tubes iykwim, you don't need to open them if you are worried about sugar just get the cheap ones and let her munch away to provide some relief.
? Puree mango & banana and mix with natural freeze into ice cube trays / icypole makers
? Freeze oranges cut into quaters. When they first come out the freezer, they're hard and slowly mush.
i used to cut cut grapes in half and freeze them for Ds i still do this now i just no longer cut them in half
i also used to puree strawberry, mango and kiwifruit in small containers or ice cube trays this went like a sorbet and i had to resist eating it all myself.
little watered down juice cubes worked well aswell in the summer
DS was never big on teething rings etc but these were big hits.
Thanks everyone, keep the tips coming if you have any more.
Oh those food clip things would work a treat, forgot all about those.
Oh and my MG all wanted to say thanks, they hadn't thought of the summer refreshers and after i gave them some of your ideas i'm sure they are running out to buy fruit & yoghurt!
Found some icypole molds at the cheap shop today, small enough for DD $2.50 and there are 8 sticks/molds!
So we had mango today and she loved it so mixed the leftover mango with watermelon and kiwi fruit, blended it together and chucked it in the molds... will let you know how they go..
Her top tooth is cutting, i can see it coming through the gum so hopefully they are set by tomorrow and she can test them out.. if they work might be going back and buying the cheap shop out of icypole molds to make yoghurt ones etc... mmmmm might be a healthy mummy snack too.
She loved them... they didn't come out of the holder properly so just got a knife and got it out, cut it into chunks and she sat there and ate it all... YUM and being 30 degrees here at the moment was nice & refereshing for her.
