ive been on the pill for a few years now (levlen), and havent had a problem. Until the past few weeks where for the last week and a half i have had on and off spotting with the occasional clot midway through my cycle. I know that not all contraception is 100% failsafe, so i guess what im asking is if its possible that i had gotten pg without knowing and am having a miscarriage or if it is just breakthrough bleeding.
Usually i would go to 'my person' to talk about this but its awfully late and i dont want to disturb her.
Any help or info would be appreciated.
Just from my own personal experience, I was on Levlen for about 3.5 years when I had the breakthrough bleeding - it lasted on and off for 3 weeks.
I went to my doctor and she took me off it and put me on a stronger dose Levlen. I then had to wait to take the new one for the bleeding/period to stop after stopping the first pill I was on...that last 5 weeks on and off.
Anyway, she explained it to me as the pill simply wasn't strong enough for me, so needed higher dosage of oestrogen...so she upped me to the stronger pill. She didnt explain though how it had been working for so long then just stopped lol
I would go to your doctor and chat to them about it. Are you on any other medications recently? I think that it was possible the Roaccutane I was on threw my body out of whack
I was on levlin about 2 years ago and i would still bleed very slightly as well even when i wasn't supposed to. The dr did think that the pill hadn't been a strong enough dose for me so after trying a few others, i decided not to bother with the pill. Now thinking back to it after being diagnosed with endometriosis only recently, i think it may have been my endo bleeding rather than the pill not being strong enough.
This may not be the case for you, but thought it might be something to consider or at least ask your dr about the possibilities of this. I really don't want to scare you but if i had known back then, would have saved me from having an op later down the track!
hi,
as it turned out, my bleeding was exactly what i hoped it would be, breakthrough bleeding.
i know all about Endo, my mum had it and had to have a full hystorectomy before she was 30.
and i think that may be a possibility, as it does run in families. and i have IBS and extremly low iron which im seeing a hemotologist about next week. my iron levels have dropped from 346 in july (when i had an iron infusion) to 45 in august and now to 19.
