wool nappy cover + extreme heat = bad nappy rash??
DD is a huge wetter, and the only thing we've found that works is 2 flats and then a wool cover. However, after the 2nd night of our heatwave, DD woke with the worst nappy rash she's ever had - we had to get an anti-fungal cream to clear it up, and she's also been gonig to be in a disposable. Its a lot clearer now, but I don't really like having her in sposies every night. Do you think it was the wool cover, and with her getting so wet, the heat just made an ideal environment for the nappy rash? What else could we try?
a decent night nappy perhaps? especially is she is a big wetter?
A wool cover wouldnt have caused the NR as it allows the 'area' to breath and the urine to evaporate into the air.
Maybe something foreign placed itself on the nappies while drying outside adn that could ahve effected her. Is she teething? Did she eat something high in acid's that day?
you need something to cause a barrier and keep the 'area' dry from urine and wetness. liner of fleece may help as it will keep moisture away....and as I said before a decent night nappy to absorbe and pull away the moisture before damage is done
What night nappy would you recommend for a big (and I mean big!) wetter? We've tried motherease sandys with an extra booster, but no luck, and I don't really want to spend a fortune. She's about 12kg now so whatever I get, I'd like it to last till she was TT.
get your hands on some baby beehinds bamboo's. YOu'd be surprised how much they actually do absorbe. You can pick them up secondhand sometimes for $10 and are a OSFA. I can send you one to try if you like so you can see if its the nappy for you
Thanks for the offer, but I reackon I'll pop to Nature's Cradle tomorrow as I think they stock them and the quicker I get DD back into MCN rather than the sposies the better! Would I boost it or not? And just use the wool cover still?
baby beehinds come with 2 boosters, a short one and a long one that gets foldered in hald length wise...in all ther eis a total of 8 layers of bamboo...and dont forget to prewash it before use and that it will take upto 10 washes to get to max absorbency.
Yes you can still use your wool cover, just make sure it lanolised fresh so you know its not the cover. Id start with the nappy and see how you went, you can always boost the outside (between the NIght nappy and the cover) at night with a terry or an extra bamboo trifold if need be.
Charmlea on here is a baby beehind rep...PM her hon...she might be able to look after you as she has some special's on at the moment
one other quick q - if they're only for night use, how many should I get? I do a load of nappies every second day. would 3 be enough or best getting 4?
you know you can rotate wool and fleece covers. You dont have to wash them every wash...and buy the sounds of it thats what your doing. If your washing your wool cover after every use...can I remind you you need to relanolise it for protection after EVERY wash. urine will sit in the nappy and cover unless you lanolise it as it will act as a stay dry barrier and allow the wetness to evaporate rather then sit in the nappy and cover.
I have wool longies here for W and they dont get washed for a month because they dont need to. There is no smell as they get aired out and the lanolised spray has a lovely fragrance.
So if you used one tonight, I would air it over the day and use it again tomorrow night BUT is you happen to have an accident I would have 2 covers so you can wash the one with poo on it
Thanks for the offer Olive, but I've just ordered a couple from BBH!
Thanks for the reminder Maz! I probably didn't make my q that clear, but I meant how many of the bamboo nappies would you recommend? I haven't been washing my wool cover every night! But I like the idea of having a fleece cover too - where can I get one? and do these need to be washed after every night use?
Thanks! Sorry for all the annoying questions but this nappy lark is rather confusing! So many options!
Hope the new nappy works well for you! But I think a barrier cream is a great idea as well.
We used one from Caring By Nature that worked well, and if there was any rash we used Lancanoh which is fantastic and helps clears it up quickly! It's also great for cracked nipples which is why I got it originally.
