if you're talking fees, its up to the discretion of the carer
if you're talking rebates
- both you and your partner have to be meeting the work study training test for at least 15 hours a week
- you will get a maximum of 24 hours rebates per week
- you will get around 60c per hour maximum
- you have to pay the fees in advance and then claim the rebates with your receipts
I think it depends on the number of hours as well. FDC have a minimum number of hours too (5 I think)??? $10 p/h would be a lot for a whole day - but not for 3-4 hours/small blocks of time IYKWIM...
the amount someone charges, as a registered carer, is entirely up to them. there is no governing board to set prices for them. if they want to charge you $10 an hour, they can. the goverment have no say in what they charge. all they can do is offer, if you're meeting the work study training test, the small rebate that goes with it. many registered carers are grandparents or friends. it's up to them to set the price.
personally, if a friend of mine was wanting to charge $10 an hour to look after my DD, i'd probably look at finding an FDC carer that was an approved scheme so that i got the higher level of rebate, lower costs etc. but i guess it's all depending on what you have available locally
if it was a one off thing at night or something, i wouldn't have a drama paying someone 30-50 dollars, depending on how long we were gone. as a kid (and i'm talking maybe 15 years ago) i used to get that much for looking after kids at night!
I agree with you, to look for FDC to get higher rebate, but i want someone that i know and I can trust to look after my DD. so, I have a piece of mind when I leave.
I'm a FDC carer and charge $5.40/hr for the hours between 8am - 6pm. Before and after those times, my fees are a lot higher due to the fact I may be working for only one or two children. My scheme charges another .50 cents an hour on top of that. My minimum hours are 6, although some other carers in our scheme have 8 hours. In Sydney, you're probably looking at higher rates.
The parent provides all food, nappies, etc. (some carers will provide linen, others ask the parent to supply)
Your actual fees depends on what your rebate would be. On my fees for the minimum of 6 hours if your CCB (child care benefit) was 100%, your fee would be $6.60, well worth looking into FDC.
