    Moving boxes

    Hey all,

Where can I get cheap moving boxes? we are about to move and i need to get quite a few moving boxes.

Looked on ebay they are like $5 EACHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. WHAT THE!!?!?!?

The ones that are second hand are not on my area and are only local pick up

Any tips on getting cheaper ones?

    Thanks

Maybe ask your local supermarket for any boxes? Unless youre after the proper moving ones, ive seen some in the trading post sometimes? Goodluck!

    Hi,

When we moved I grabbed some boxes from the local supermarket. The big cereal ones were great, but not as strong as the pofessional ones.

Moving companies usually provide them, but I'm not sure what they cost.

Otherwise put a shout out to other BB members: there is always someone with a stash of boxes from just moving house. I managed to grab mine from a friend who moved a few weeks before we did. She was glad to get them out of her garage!

I am sure they wouldn't mind giving you some. I used to work there and get as many as I liked. Just ask your local store if they would mind getting you a few - The fries boxes are the best

Removalists and storage places often have 2nd hand boxes for sale. They will often buy back your boxes if you buy new one off them, so that is one way of offsetting the cost of moving.

just as another option, when we moved we bought all of our moving boxes from Kennards self storage. We got heaps of the medium sized boxes (which are quite large, and I personally wouldn't want to be lifting anything bigger - as it is we needed two people to lift the ones containing books, and they were plenty strong enough).

The medium boxes are around the $3.50 mark, or < $3ea if you buy 10 or more.

They aren't the only option - many self storage places have moving boxes. Most of them also buy back unused boxes at the same price that you paid, and will even buy back used boxes at a cheaper rate.

    Happy moving!

When we moved house we got our boxes off Freecycle for free.
