    What do i do?

I've recently sold all the puppies my dog gave birth too and had them all vet checked this past weekend. One of them wasnt gaining weight and wasnt walking properly which i pointed out to the vet and she said he may be delayed in muscle growth and sold me some tablets.

Now the owner was insistent (sp?) on picking him up right as he was 6 weeks old (same day as the vet check) and i said to him he isnt doing that great i'd like to keep him a bit longer. No no whatever youre going to do to look after him i can do at home. I want him TODAY. So reluctantly i let him take him, gave him the medication, told him what to do said to keep in contact.

He calls today saying the puppy isnt doing any better i want you to take him back to the vet. The earliest i can get to the vet is Saturday so i said drop him off at 9am Saturday and i'll take him Saturday afternoon. Yep no worries.

The new owner mentions he has an ulcer looking thing on his belly button and i explained this is the reason i wanted to keep him with me longer to make sure i was doing everything i could to look after him...

So depending on how this vets appointment goes on Saturday if he's not doing any better i'd really like to keep him with me for a couple of weeks and make sure im doing everything possible to get him healthy again...what if the owner doesnt want me to do that? Do i let him take him home and keep bringing him back when i dont even know if the puppy is getting his medication or not? I dont want to keep forking out money if he isnt caring for him properly...

Just got a txt after i asked how often he is giving him these tablets "one every night" clearly when he picked him up i said half a tablet crushed into his food every meal... arg what do i do?

I'd give him back his money and look after him myself until pup is well.. He is at a young enough age that you'll be able to find another buyer if this guy isn't willing to wait.

is it at all possible for u to be a bit shifty and tell him the pup had to b put down and offer him a full refund? then care for the puppy yourself and sell it again once its healthy enough?
he doesnt sound like he's taking the puppy's welfare seriously at all, poor little bugger

You'll have to do some sort on contract - indicating all pups medications and him agreeing to care for the pup as you specified or return it.

Out of all 8 puppies this guy is the only one i was not keen about selling a puppy to!! The rest i know have gone to such loving homes this one i just get a weird vibe!

He agreed to drop the puppy off Saturday and for me to care for him until he is better (after receiving a nasty message blaming me for the pups issues and how could i only notice this 2 days before he had to pick him up i let him have the puppy a week earlier then planned AND against my better judgement!)

Cant wait to get the little guy back and healthy again!!

Why not ask him to drop the dog off earlier if you are going to look after it for a bit.
Just say you would like to observe it for a day before seeing the vet so you can answer all the vets questions to see if something was missed.
    Worth a try.

He sounds completely dodgy to me!

You are doing the right thing in wanting to take care of the puppy for longer, but in reality, once the puppy has gone to the new owners, shouldn't it really be his reponsibility for taking it to the vet and paying for it? (not that you (or I) wouldn't be willing to).

Are you taking the pup back to the same vet? With the growth and the walking there could be something wrong with pup's little brain (awful...I know, but this happened to us many years ago). Maybe you'll have to tell the new owner that he should be ready that the pup may not come home and that he will be refunded his money.....and even if the pup is OK and you bring him back to health beautifully, once he's gone, any further issues must be left the responsiblity of the new owner, not you.

Good luck...hope the little puppy is OK

Isn't there a "law" where you're able to refuse to sell a dog to someone if you feel they are un able to care for them properly?

I don't think you need a law - xp would just refuse if he didn't like them.

That's exactly what I would do.

Every time we've bought a puppy the breeders have made sure we would be suitable owners before agreeing to sell it to us. I still keep in contact with the breeder of my dog, I send her photos and have even taken Monti to her house for a play with her mum lol.

The 'owner' asked to come to the vet with me as he wanted to hear first hand what the vet said (apparently i must be making stuff up - thats what he was insinuating (sp?))

I really dont want to spend more then 5 minutes with this guy so am a little releived he cant make the appointment tomorrow. Im even dredding (sp?) him dropping the puppy off tonight, might make DP talk to him. I dont really want to
