High Progesterone Level 1000+... (ATT Sushee)

Hi, I did a search re high progesterone levels and saw that Sushee posted about a level 1000+ last year. If she could reply great or if anybody else who has been in a similar situation. I got a BFP on Friday (2nd IVF pg - so excited!!!).. with a Prog reading of 1117! I am so bloated and in a fair bit of pain from it.. Am seeing FS today to check my tummy for fluid. As Sushee experienced... I look about 6 months pg! I was just wondering whether the bloating will go down???.. or whether prog levels will stay high during the pg?? Am hoping not! I have ceased pessaries as of yesterday.. Thanks in advance

    Hi Emma,

sorry it's taken me so long to reply.

Yes my levels were huge (similar to yours, if not more, but I don't have my notes here with me, so can't be sure). My Dr explained that it was because my body was producing more than enough without the help of the pessaries. Nothing to worry about at all.

My P4 levels didn't stay high throughout the pregnancy at all - it subsided after a week or so once I stopped the pessaries, and the bloating reduced over the course of that time as well.

And my son is now almost 4 so no, it won't do any damage aside from pretty awful discomfort for you.

    Congratulations!

    Hi There

I'm almost 15 weeks after an IVF pregnancy & my progesterone levels were crazy high as well... almost 1000.

I was on 2 pessaries twice a day, but stopped after I got the positive result & had my levels checked a few times.
My levels dropped down slowly & my bloating went down a little (not much though )

Your levels are so high because your body is producing enough progesterone on its own

YAY! for your positive result - congratulations & best of luck with the pregnancy

Thanks for the replies... sorry its taken me a while!! I have noticed the bloating is starting to go down... and i am not in as much pain as I was a couple of days ago thank goodness. FS said the same thing, that my body is producing more than enough - and since stopping the pessaries, it should start to go down slowly..

And thanks for the congrats too!! Cant believe it only took 4 months TTC whereas with DS it took 3 years!

wow so glad i found this

I had my bt at 14 dpo and P4 was 700 the nurse didnt have the results and i had been bleeding so she told me to continue with an extra pessarie (up my bum!) the next day i got the result of p4 being 700 and my nurse was not there and the covering nurse said just to continue like prev advised until repeat on monday (i was naughty and stopped as they were causing discomfort and i thought my levels would not drop past 50 if i stopped then at 700)

BT Monday confirmed P4 at over 1200!!!

is it a problem if you have too high p4? nurse said it was ok to stop (then told her i had already! (not impressed)

    Im so confused?

    How are you going Emma?

ETA i have no pg symptoms and low HCG

Hi Loula.. sorry I just saw your post.

I was told by my FS, that my body was just producing enough P4, he said that they offer the pessaries to everyone after EPU not knowing whether you will be the one who will already have enough P4 or not.. i guess it just makes sure that there is enough P4 to see you through the PG if all goes well. I was very very bloated... and in turn, very painful in the stomach for a couple of weeks.. but the bloating has gone down and the PG is going well... 7 weeks on Wednesday, had the ultrasound and all is great. I had stopped the pessaries too.. probably should have stopped earlier like you did.

I dont think it is a problem if you have high P4... My FS was not phased by my P4 of 1117... But i dont know what is considered "too high" if there is such a thing.

How are you going? Did the bleeding stop? Hope so
