We went to the doctors today and dd was put on zoton. We were suppose to get the granule sachets/packets that you mix with water and give to them, but when we went to the chemist the pharmacist said that the packets had been discontinued.
So we had to take the capsules home and have to empty the little round balls out of the capsule and give them to dd. shes breastfed, so we have to put a bit of expressed milk on a spoon with the little white balls. We tried before and they are hard for her to swallow down. they end up all over her mouth and tongue.
Does Zoton come in any other form? I have read somewhere else that it can come in liquid form but the pharmacist didnt tell us about this, he said there where only the capsules.
I responded to your other post too as our DD, who has silent reflux, was put on Zoton first but it didn't really help. We took her to her paediatrician instead of the GP and he put her straight on Losec - massive difference within 48 hours.
With the Zoton, we got the liquid form (known as 'suspension') but only 3 pharmacies in Perth make the liquid form. You may need to check with the pharmicies at your hospital(s). When DD switched to Losec, we used the tablet form in a syringe. We'd put the tablet in the syringe then suck up some water and let it disolve in the syringe then we would give it to her. We had to add (suck up) some more water in order to get the full dose into her. My lactation consultant told me that one of the pharmacies makes Losec in a suspension form too so we got onto that. It's $42 for a months supply though so HEAPS more expensive than the tablets but although she still doesn't like it, it is a lot easier to give to her than the tablets. The tablets taste horrible!!

If we can't see a difference with the zoton I think I will ask the doctor about Losec then. The zoton is so hard to get into her. Last night we emptied the 'little balls' (large granules) out of the capsule and mixed with some expressed milk, we managed to get some balls in, but lots came falling out. We tried tonight and the balls must of stuck to her throat or something, as she started a coughing fit and then did a big vomit so she got no zoton in her anyway. They balls in the capsule can't even be dissolved in liquid, as the pharmacist said they are designed to dissolve in the stomach. I don't like opening up the capsule and giving her the balls as its not designed to be taken that way... especially for babies! I'm worried dd will choke
I did ask the pharmacist if there was anything else we could use but he said there wasn't. I wonder why he didnt mention losec (he was trying to think of ways to help give dd the inside of the capsule, but he just suggested expressed milk on a spoon with the balls on).
Taurean do you mind me asking where you went to see the paediatrician? I don't think there are any where we live. But I am willing to take dd to perth to see one if we can't manage with the zoton capsules

Our paediatrician is Dr Savery in Attadale. He saw our little girl when she was born - at SJOG Murdoch. He is lovely and doesn't muck around. He said most of his reflux babies responded better to Losec. You will need a referral from your GP to see him.
The Zoton suspension (liquid) is only made at SJOG Murdoch and Subi pharmacies and the Joondalup hospital. The Losec suspension is apparently only available at Subi. You need to find a compounding chemist and apparently there aren't many of them around!!
Even if you can't get the suspension, we did find the losec easier to administer eve though DD hated it. Disolving it in a syringe is a lot easier.
