    Eucalyptus Oil

Ok so i am a little obsessed with the Eucalyptus oil at the moment, used it in the wash when DD was sick all over her sheets.
Been using it in hot water when i do my 'dusting' or wiping down tables, use it to get sticky stuff off things...

So what do you use Eucalyptus oil for and what do you use it with to make cleaning the house etc easier/better or more environmentally friendly?

God it smells good... might be over it soon

Definitely subscribing to this thread as I have just decided to get rid of all my cleaning products and going green. The chemical spell is just grossing me out now.

Honey - just picking up on your last post - you're probably already doing this, but I would suggest that extreme caution is exercised using eucalyptus oil in your DD's room at her age.

Eucalyptus is an extremely potent (and toxic) oil and can cause skin irritations in adults even when diluted, it is not generally recommended for use with babies. Even if you are not using it in preparations that your DD will be directly exposed to, if you notice any skin irritation or reaction when using it in washing, you should stop using it straight away.

You should also be careful when using it to clean surfaces that your DD comes into direct contact with (especially mouth contact, which can be pretty much everything with a baby her age) - if using it to wash your floor, for example, it should be diluted a further 1:4 ratio to what you would normally dilute it.

Also, some aromatherapists recommend that misters /atomisers not be used in a child's room as inhaled particles can be harmful. Infusers are fine though.

The oils most suitable for use with babies are chamomile, lavender and mandarin. Lavender has similar properties to eucalyptus in many respects and is a suitable substitute for cleaning.

    HTH!

Thanks Suse, i wasn't aware of some of those things.
I use it to wipe down the furniture etc in her room but i open the windows and use 1/2 cap in a HUGE bucket of water and she's never in there straight after it's done.
I also wipe down using paper towel after i do it to dry the areas off.

She has eczema so i am normally very careful of what i use for her, she hasn't worn any of the stuff that i washed with eucalyptus yet so will keep an eye on her.

Oh there are no burners etc in her room anyway, only a mozzie candle which is blown out before she goes to bed.

I like Lavendar too but it tends to give me a headache if i am cleaning EVERYTHING with it... lol kinda like i am now.. think it's me nesting?
