Yesterday I went to pick up the kids from school and when I got home DH said that he was in the back yard while DD2 slept. He heard the back door open and close thinking DS14 and his friend came home as they had gone out. A few minutes later he went to go inside when two boys were coming out the back door and asked if DS was home. Without knocking they just walked straight into our home. I've only met these boys once so hardly know them but just a bit shocked to think they just walked in. DS has since told them to knock next time, maybe it is normal for them but it actually got me thinking how easily someone could just walk in take something and leave.
I've heard of so many people having things taken out of their house while they were in the back yard. Or through the back door when they were in the front of the house.
Maybe keep doors locked if you think you won't hear someone come in?
Silly boys! Do they not have manners?
A family recently here in Ballarat were all sleeping in their home at nightime when more than one person came into their home and stole their wallets/purses and then took the keys of the car & took their car for a drive ... i was so shocked to hear it, i think thankfully i lock my doors each night ... but during the daytime who would think people would just waltz into someone's home.
My DP grew up in a small country town and it's common for people there to just walk into someone's house without knocking, we often stay weekends at his folks in this particular small town and i woke during the morning to make a quick dash to the loo to find some strange man who turned out to be the neighbour up the road who just invites himself in, needless to say i have since experienced other's doing it so i make sure my hair doesn't look like a huge birdsnest before i step out of their guestroom
Dianne, good on your DH speaking up & ' warning ' these teens to not just walk in without notice !!!
Everyone i know here just walks into each others homes, but im not comfortable with that, i have been taught to always knock and wait for someone to answer the door, my friends laugh at me but i think its good manners. Id say these boys are used to just walking in to someones home, but how scary they could have been anyone. And at my mums, she never locks her house up as she has inside dogs but one day someone walked into our house and ransacked my bedroom, i came home from school and my bedroom door was opened and my room was trashed, they had stolen only DP's laptop which was under my bed so they knew what they wanted.... i didnt sleep in there for weeks..
