Is it just my child who does this???

Goes completely nuts when they have prednisone???
I don't like to give it to her all the time however this time it's pretty bad so when the dr suggested it i was happy to have it. Everytime i give it to her i see a MASSIVE change in her behaviour. She starts doing everything she doesn't normal do and jsut acting completely nuts.
Is it just my child or do others do this too??? Tell me i'm not crazy!!!

You're not crazy! My DH has to take prednisolone from time to time and he says it makes him hyper, and he times when he takes it as if he takes it too late in the day it interferes with his sleep. He calls it prednisolone fuzz. The higher the dose the bigger the reaction. From memory he says that the fuzz peaks about 6 hours after he's taken it?

Thanks Tish. I seem to notice the change in her about an hour after shes had it. Shes having 1.5ml twice a day. While I don't mind this change in the morning as i can cope with her having a later sleep...the one at night drives me nuts as shes awake so much longer!

Prednisone is a steroid, so you'd expect your child (or adult even) to go crazy when they've taken it.
I take it when my asthma is really bad, and it's an awful drug. I dread having to take it, and I dread having to wean off it.

My Mum takes very high dose prednisone and the two major side effects that she gets are really high blood glucose levels and insomnia - they are both listed as possible side effects - and could explain the hyper activity.

It is bad enough in a grown woman - I just can't imagine how much "fun" it could be in a wee one
