i was reading somewhere that its ok if not good to put nappy rash cream on your baby even if they dont have a rash to help prevent it happening at all.
is this true?
also what creams do you recomend? im using sudocream, Miss A doesnt have a rash but i put it on her after a bath since thats usually the longest time she'll be in a nappy (since its bedtime) but im not sure i like sudocream i realise a nappy cream is ment to be this kind of texture, i dont know its hard to explain lol
I use moogoo cream, and since its so moisturising, I can use it at every nappy change - I currently use it on DD2 after her bath (all over her body, not just her nappy area) and only use it on the older two when they have a rash.
I hate sudocream (not just cos you can't use it with cloth nappies unless you have a liner) but its disgusting to apply!
My DS is living in Lucus PawPaw ointment at the moment as it does wonders for his dry, eczema prone skin. I use it everywhere including his nappy area and so far we have not had nappy rash! I apply it after every change.
farmgirl77, ive heard of using that stuff, i might actually give that a go. I think Miss A has sensitive skin, i used to use johnson&johnson bedtime bath on her (i used the stuff inher water and was using oil then swapped to the lotion) but her skin become very dry and within a couple of days of not using it it went away.. i love the smell of that stuff so it really sucks
Yes...if I don't use nappy cream at every single nappy change DD gets a nasty rash very quickly.
DS was exactly the same. I used Aromababy Barrier Balm on him but with DD the only thing that works is Bepanthen.
I do like the texture of Bepanthen, it's very smooth and "spreadable" and you can get it at the supermarket so convenient as well. There are 2 types, a normal one and a stronger one in a blue box. I use the normal one every day and would only need to use the stronger one if there is an outbreak of nappy rash, gets it under control straight away.
Strangely DS was the one with very sensitive skin and eczema all over his body and scalp. DD is not nearly so bad but her nappy area is way more sensitive. Even the Aromababy didn't work and I swore by that stuff with DS.
Pawpaw ointment and zinc-based creams actually aggravated nappy rash on both of them. (I wish I had a $1 for every pharmacist who has looked at me disbelievingly when I explain why I don't want a zinc-based nappy cream). I don't really like them anyway, too thick and gucky in texture for my liking.
I had to use Desitin once because DD had thrush but of course the thrush cleared up and she was left with nappy rash from the zinc in the Desitin!!! (She got thrush before I used Bepanthen...just in case you were wondering how that happened if I am saying how wonderful Bepanthen is!!)
For bathtime they both use Hamilton body wash from the pharmacy. No nice smell, but they have lovely skin.
at the moment i dont use any soaps on DD, just the jonsons shampoo and her skin has never looked better. i jut dont want to dry her skin out with soap is all, but im gonna have to start using something soon.
With the bapanthem you mean theres the normal one and then the one thats the antiseptic one, i actually have a tube of both but one i was using for a rash on my legs and the other we used for our tattoos, so ill have to get a fresh tube of both. i forgot about that stuff tho, and i do like the texture
