Maternity wear for work

I work in a professional job & regularly attend customer meetings. Although I don't need suits (good thing about being pregnant in summer) I do need to look smart.

I live in Newcastle & have been to the shops I know about that sell maternity wear (Sparkle Kids in The Junction, Kmart, Target, Pumpkin Patch) and they don't have clothes suitable for work. Actually most of the clothes I tried didn't fit - too big up top (even though I have grown two sizes ) and too big in the belly for this stage of pregnancy.

I see there are a few places to buy online but I'm not keen on buying online as it is too hard to know what size to buy.

Can anyone suggest where I might be able to find a few pieces suitable for work in the Newcastle area?

I had similar problems! It's hard to do smart professional when the only comfortable clothing comes in sssttrreeeettccchhhhhh lol.

I bought a couple of nice work shirts in larger sizes and had an aunt who's nifty with a sewing macine take them in around the top. Another thing I found usefull was black stretchy tops, worn with nice pants & jackets.

Do you have a Target nearby? They have pants suitable for office work that have a roll down band across the tummy - I lived in them during my pregnancy. They got me right through to 38 wks when I stopped work. I teamed them with larger shirts, with a belt under the boobs, longer flowy tops or stretchy tops that had enough length to stretch over my belly. Then I just used to jazz it up with nice necklaces or scarves, sometimes a little cardi over the top. The pants come in full length (I wore my black ones to death) and also 3/4 length too which got a lot of use in summer for me.

Plus I had a few bias cut skirts in a bigger size that I could team with my knits/business shirts.

Hi Renee - I am in the same boat, I have quite a few casual clothes but nothing for work. I went to Pumpkin Patch and bought a pair of plain black pants, a plain black dressy T, a long cream coloured shirt and a black skirt. All up it was about $100 - thanks to the super sale they are having right now! I am hoping these will all be able to be mixed and matched with plain tops and dress them up with accessories. You can also buy online and at the moment they are having an extra 20% off for any sale items......... I checked Target but there as basically nothing to fit me and nothing my style. DJ's and Myers had such a limited range it was depressing. I can't believe how limited the range for mat clothes are!! Happy Shopping

Thanks for the suggestions. I have one pair of black trousers a friend lent me which I wore two out of the three days at work last week. Other than that all casual (non-maternity clothes) from Target....hooray for empire line fashion.

I am not very good with accessorising but it sounds like I need to learn just so I don't look frumpy while I am pregnant. Funny thing is, at 37 years old for the first time in my life I love my body....I love the my round tummy & what it means....but I can't find any damn thing to wear .

I'll keep trying with your suggestions.

btw...DJ's & Myer here don't have maternity wear (only bras).

Morph maternity salwars are a great innovation. Their adjustable elastic and drawstring at the waistband have allowed to me to wear them comfortably and stylishly during the entire course of my pregnancy and later too.

Go to the asos website. They have a maternity range that's not too bad
