DD2 has eczema since 6 weeks and is 12 mnths now. We have been going to a dermotologist but the only advise or treatment she has given is to keep DD moistorised and do wet wraps with Elocon ointment with flare-ups. She has been allergy tested with no known allergies and I only dress her in cotton. She continually gets a rash which the dermo says is eczema starting and her hands are always patchy. I am tired of just putting on cortizone cream when I know it is not so good for her. I am now thinking of taking her to a naturopath. Has anyone had any success with this?
My DS has eczema too. We went to see a natropath a few times and he was on some homeopathic remedies too for awhile. It has nearly all cleared up now! We use moo goo every day even when his skin looks good and use Michael's Olivara Skin Wash in his bath (this worked better than QV Oil). I have resisted using steroid creams just because I don't like them and his eczema never got that bad that I felt I had no option.
He also has a sprinkling of probiotic powder on his breakfast each day. I'm convinced this works as I've trialled not giving it to him for a week and the rash started to reappear then got better after he was back on it.
Thanks for the reply. I have an appointment on 14 Jan. I really hope they can do something. I use the GV products and dermeze as well. I have had to use the stronger creams though as the normal cream just doesn't seem to stop it. I hope the naturapath can help. I also use the probiotics on her breakfast.
Nothing like a cuddle from DD after a hard day's work!

HI Miss H,
I refused to use cortizone creams on DD as well. When DD was a 2 months old her scalp was seeping (to the point where my shirt would get wet from carrying her). Her face her hands everything was itchy and sore.
I went to see a chinese herbalist in Melbourne and I swear, over night you can see the difference!!!
However, her eczema hasnt cleared because i use those creams he mixed up sparingly as they dont have ingredients on them. But every time use it it works on DD straight away.
Let us know how the naturopath goes as this is probably a better alternative for us.
Also, try an accupuncturist! We took ds to one when he was little, can't remember what for, but he didn't use the needles. Whatever he did worked! Just a thought!
I have had eczema my whole life and dermatologists are absolutely useless. I strongly recommend naturopaths.
You should only use cortisone when the patchy areas are really bad, like inflamed and rough and thick.
Don't use soap or shampoo when washing. I use organic products which made a really huge difference. I use a brand called Sukin, it has a range of shampoos and soaps and facial wash etc, all organic.
Bedding - silk is good for eczema.
When washing any of your baby's clothes/bedding etc, try and use a good washing powder. I've never found any 'organic' products, but there are special ones for babies/sensitive skin.
Also, make sure everything is Fragrance Free.
Baby wipes are also full of chemicals that create skin issues. Whenever I use them, like for changing nappies, I use a tissue dipped in water to wipe away the residue of the chemicals from the wipes.
Also diet, milk is quite lethal for eczema, try and keep it to a minimum, also orange juice or anything strongly acidic, I have found onion to be quite a trigger, even eggs. Good stuff is avocado, chickpeas, fish..
Hope any of this helps!
While my DS only has dermatitis with very very dry skin, I am seeing a chiro/naturopath for it - we're still working on the solution for it (apparently the stuff I was taking for it didn't go through my milk like it does 80% of the time)
I swapped to the MooGoo "Eczema & Psoriasis" cream from the steroid creams & QV repair cream the GP had us on. I've seen a remarkable difference today since only using it on and off since last week (I can't use it when DS goes to CC as it's a nut free zone and the MooGoo has almond oil in it). I've been using it nearly every nappy change on his legs and face and the legs are nearly moist today and it's made a huge difference just this morning.
