Question Hot weather, BBT and charting (???)

I thought I'd put this out there, not only so I can get an answer but for future reference for others wondering the same thing.

I was wondering how much, or if at all, the weather (i.e. hot or cold) affects bbt and charting. Although we are not currently actively TTC and are using protection, my doctor thought it would be a good idea to continue charting so I can learn more about my cycle, as I only came off the pill in september, and after 3 m/c this year my cycle has been pretty out of wack.

So I guess I am just confused as to whether I've O'ed or if it's just the shocker heat melbourne had last night. I did have cramps and then what felt like o pains on my right side yesterday. Yesterday was also cd 14, and although that's not when everyone o's, my last few charts have had o at around cd 12-14. Today my temp is way up. I don't think I've ever had such a clear o sign, if that's what it was. It was pretty hot last night, BUT the fan was on pointed directly at us all last night, I slept nudie, and it was a very restless night, which all add up to a lower temp, right? There have been other hot nights when my temp hasn't been that high...it just seems a bit of a coincidence that I get a nice high temp when its very possible I O'ed. Like I said, definitely not trying to get utd at this stage,a just trying to understand my cycles a bit more so when we do start TTC again, I'll have a better understanding of when af is due etc.

Hrm sorry for the ramble there...back to my original question; in your opinion/experience, does the weathered affect bbt to the degree that it has affected my chart?

Wow it's STILL so hot...you're welcome hun I hope the heat doesn't affect it too much, it would be fab to see such a clear sign of O, all the others have been pretty iffy lol.

I don't think it would... but I could be wrong. Our bodies are designed to maintain their temperature, so shouldn't be that affected by the weather unless you were actually overheating or exposed to the cold or something. Like I wouldnt' expect eskimo's to have lower body temperatures unless they were actually caught out in the cold.

My temps seem to be about the same throughout various seasons.

    I dunno really LOL.

ETA: hmm... FF lists change of climate as something that can affect temps. So there you go.. maybe it can.

thanks liz...i just read that on FF too...although the last few nights have been hot too. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what my temps do in the coming days...i guess if they drop dramatically then I'll know it was just the heat. Xx

    PZ,
Yesterday I took my temp and it was 36.07 (pretty low for me) even with the heat. I would assume it would be business as usual. If you're worried about it, put a note in the notes section detailing the increased external temps.

I have done many months of charting & my temps are always higher in the warmer months. They are higher by around .2 degrees. That is from CD1 all the way to AF. Even comparing Jan 08 to Jan 10 they are around the same temp, but June - Aug 07 were lower temps. I would say yeah, a hot night could affect your temp
