I use one made by Vahlia (I think). In most supermarkets.
Just wondered what yoghurt is "safe" for babies to have...I usually buy the vanilla Ski yoghurt for me, but didn't think that it was good for babies to have dairy...

Jalna all the way. The baby yogurt is just full of sugar (to get them to eat it i suppose) and there is no way i would give it to DD and shes 15 months. At 6 months the most important food for them is their milk, it will give them what they need.
There are 'baby' yogurts, but I have always given my DS the natural Greek style yogurt and mixed fruit through it (banana or mango is good!). That way you know the yogurt is natural with no added sugar.
As far as I know, yogurt is fine for babies, unless you have dairy intolerance issues in your family, in which case you should be cautious.

Jalna here too!!
i too use Jalna or the gippsland organic plain yoghurt and mix fruit with it.
Like everyone else says, baby yoghurts are full of sugar. Your ski vanilla is probably quite high in sugar too. I mean, it would be fine for your little girl to eat, better than a cheeseburger i guess, but a plain yoghurt with fruit mixed through would be a better alternative. I sometimes use those rafferties pouches and mix that in.
Mundella all the way here! Its a locally produced yoghurt (but you can get it nationally in Coles & Woolies) pot set, full of good live cultures and its ingredients are listed as:
Whole Milk, Non-fat milk solids & cultures. (Premium Natural style)
I also get the one with berry fruit in it and the only other ingredients then are the fruit.
I buy it by the 5kg tub and add my own fruit / toppings. Its YUMMY!!!!
I've never seen that Mundella Winter, i'm going to keep my eye out now though.....
Jalna or anything tub setwithout too much sugar
I get the Mundella natural pot set yoghurt too, then add fruit or those Raffertys Garden squeezy purees.
I make my own yoghurt with an Easiyo maker. You can get them at Coles supermarkets. Only about $3 for equivalent of 1kg. I agree with the others on getting the natural yogurt, if they don't know any different they won't complain. My DS loves natural. I just make sure it is the full fat one.
thanks everyone
I was in Woolies this afternoon and the only one they have is Jalna so i bought a little tub of that and will give her a taste tomorrow, just for something different!
Kylie- my mum has an Easiyo and I love the yoghurt from it. I don't think we would eat enough of it though to justify it though, as much as I would love one.
I've always given DD natural yoghurt, no fruit added, just plain. She still loves it at nearly four and so I haven't bothered to go near any of the flavoured ones. And despite being happy to eat all fruits on their own, she's not impressed if they're dunked in her yoghurt!
Gosh! I never knew that the baby yoghurts have added sugar! I kind of just assumed that it would be really natural and never checked. Doh! Kyson has been having the Vaalia baby yoghurt, but now I think I'll try the Jalna one. I hope he doesn't turn his nose up at it because he's used to the sugar, eek!
DS is basically living off yoghurt at the moment!! He has totally gone off his food but yoghurt he will eat...
We also use Jalna here and he loves it. Often mixed with avocado or fruit purees.
Hi Kylie! Thought I'd look you up.
Just recently found out that you can make your own yoghurt WITHOUT the bought sachets with the Easy-Yo maker. The trick is to use UHT milk instead of fresh. This makes sense, as apparently traditionally you quickly scold the milk before you make yoghurt with it. Have heard biodynamic milk works too, but not sure why! Rough recipe: 2/3 cup your favourite natural set yoghurt (try good greek yoghurt or Jalna) plus 1 Litre of UHT full cream milk. Cap and shake to mix. Place tub in the outer container with the boiling water and leave at least 8 hours/overnight as normal. Use a bit more yoghurt next time if too runnny or leave for a few more hours. Can use the yoghurt to start the next batch. Not sure how many times you can do this safely, but assume 2-3 months would be okay before starting with fresh yoghurt starter again as yoghurt as such a long expiry date. Best of luck to all who try it!![]()
HI Hilary,
We have just started using the EasiYo without the sachets like you. Just wondering if you use cold UHT milk or room temp UHT milk in the maker? Also, have you ever used milk powder to make it?
She doesnt seem to mind it even though I think it smells/tastes kinda like vomit! Lol.
Have only given it to her a couple of times. The yoghurt face is very impressive!
