How well do you know/trust your teenagers friends?

Just thought I'd put this question out there. DS had a friend for a few years who would come over to our house or they would go out together and I fully trusted this boy. He was always polite and just seemed like a good boy until DS told me he had gotten into trouble with the police and many numerous things he had done, I was completely shocked. Thankfully DS, on his own accord, decided he didn't want anything more to do with this boy. It has just made me think of his other friends and what they are truly like.

Trust that you have given your son the information and tools to make good decisions,

I used to hang out with guys that did all sorts of bad/dumb things. (Car theft, Break and Enter, Drugs, Dealing Drugs, one dude even went to jail for Armed Robbery, twice)

When things got intense I would just leave, or distance myself from them when I knew bad things were happening.

I have just re-read the top bit and I think I should make it clear that I did not participate in these things (Except for the drugs, I smoked a bit of weed in Highschool). Nor was I hanging out with some sort of bikie gang. this is a laundry list that was several years in the making. Mostly these were things that happened that I could have been a part of if I had poor judgement.
