    Question How often should kittens...

    ...poop?

I'm after a little bit of help in regards to my 2 eight week old kittens...

I'm slightly concerned at how much they are pooping. I'm talking 3-4 times A DAY EACH. They don't seem to be in any pain at all and are very happy running around, playing and tormenting each other right up until nature calls.

I am feeding them only dry food at the moment, just mixed with a little bit of warm water. I feed them an egg cup full of dry food each 3 times a day (about 6.30am, 12.30ish and 5.30pm) and normally one egg cup full between them before I leave for work and maybe another one before I go to bed if they are hanging around the kitchen meowing.

I am worried that I am over feeding them but everything I have read says that kittens only eat when they're hungry... they don't always clean the bowls, but I don't throw too much away either.

They have little round bellies, but I can pat their tummies and there doesn't seem to be any discomfort or reaction.

The consistency of their 'business' is like toothpaste... it's not runny at all so I'm assuming they are generally ok...

Is this normal for kittens? 3-4 times a day seems a little excessive, but then again they are only little and the foods gotta go somewhere...

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

yeah, sounds pretty normal to me!

when my cat had her last litter, we kept them till 10 weeks old, I was changing the kitty litter tray up to 3 times a day (ewwww, smelly, smelly!) but that was with the mother and 5 kittens!

The consistency is fine, Elocin .. when we first got our little guy, he would go absolutely anywhere ... but training him was not a problem: I don't think it took us a week to have him poop in his tray (he now has two)

I don't know how often you should be feeding them .. it sounds a little much, but we feed our guy (he's 7 now) 3×daily - kibble at 0600 and 2130, and canned stuff (usually a pouchful) at 1800 .. I would look at the side of the packet / can to see how much you should be feeding them.

As for the tummies, if you're concerned, talk to the vet about it. When both our guys were growing up, we'd be at our vets almost constantly .. that's what they're there for! Just like with real-kids, you can never be too careful!

Sounds ok to me too hun. Just think about it like this - what goes in must come out so if they are eating so frequently then they will probably have frequent bowel movements.
My cat eats several times a day and has always done so. I just replace his dry bickies when the bowl is empty ro top it up at dinner time. They won't just eat and eat and providing they are lively and happy then I would assume there is nothing to worry about.
