    No its too early

How do I know if my baby is weaning early, or is its breast refusal, or hes not hungry, or its just hot etc? Or if we're giving him too much solids?

DS' feeds are all over the place lately. He generally has 4 a day. He only went from 5 to four about 1-2 months ago, but already the two day feeds are very short (im talking under 5mins in total and sometimes most of that can be one side) if he's bf, and if its EBM hes having only about 100-170ml at each feed.

Morning and night feeds are generally bf unless Im not home, but the night time ones especially are sometimes less than 10 minutes in total (which is very short compared to normal 30-60mins) so then I worry about whether I should be giving him top ups..

Is he dropping another day feed? Is hea weaning? How long do I perservere before I decide its not temporary?

ds1 was ff from 6 months so it was a lot clearer how muchmilk he was getting, but this is confusing. I keep reading that he should be still having 600-900ml a day and I just cant see that hes having close to that.

Relax! Your little boy is much too young to wean! And he knows just what he's doing. Babies and boobs were invented before the instructions on the side of the formula can. Knowing how much he *gets*doesn't tell you what he wants " luckily he knows what he wants. At 8 mnths he's big and strong . He can drain a breast in 10 mins flat. In the day he's a boy with places to go and things to see. Trust him!

Hun, I know how worrying short feeds can be. I have found though that babies seem to get an awful lot out in a short time once they get bigger (in fact my first DS never, ever fed for longer than 10 minutes, and very rarely for longer than 5 minutes, even as a nb).

You are doing such a fantastic job of combining work and bfing - I am sure that you will both enjoy your bfing relationship for quite a while yet.

    Hi Pandora,

Jack is doing the exact same thing, He was having 4 good feeds a day (I'm lucky he sleeps from 8pm til about 7am) but he has dropped one of his day feeds. He has a huge morning feed, then has one in the aft and then one just before bed.

I too was worried but I know he is getting a good amount of solids so he musn't need it. I still offer him the mid morning feed sometimes he takes it other times he isn't fussed.

I just posted a thread re him grazing me with his teeth, gosh it is hurting,
