Red face Stitches - when do they fall out?

I had vaginal wall tearing and a 2nd degree perineum tear. It's been two weeks and I can still feel and see some of the stitches. The midwives in hospital assured me the stitches would fall out by themselves in 7-10 days. Is this right? Will they fall out by themselves? I don't see my ob until my 6 week post natal check...

    Hi Eluned

I had 3rd degree tearing and was told my stitches should be gone within 7-10 days BUT they stayed in for about 4-5 weeks. The Dr also did say sometimes the 'heavier duty' stitches that were used in particular places may need to be removed but that never happened.

    Hope that helps...

I remember with one of mine (can't remember which baby sorry) that DH pulled the remaining stitches out with tweezers because I had healed but they were still there. They were more than ready to come out, but just hadn't. They weren't disolvable ones.

Theya re supposed to have dissolved by now, and sometimes what you can feel is the skin knitting together more deeply. I had one though that didn't and ended up getting grown over and had to get cut out at about 8-10 weeks PD and I would stop bleeding as my Platelets were still low and it had to be restitched

If you are concerned speak to your OB or Dr and get checked, more for your piece of mind and if there was one still there I would definitely get it out now rather than later xxoo
