    Question Water while renting

I am sure there is probably already a thread on this but I have a hard time navigating the site on my iPhone without a wifi connection.

I have recently moved into a unit and when I signed my lease I signed a piece of paper that said something about paying water as well, I had 2 unsettled kids so didn't do a lot of reading and the real estate company never gave me a copy. Do I pay just for my usage or do I pay all the taxes and stuff as well? I know in my mortgaged house the bill was like $200 every 2 months but the usage was more like $16 for the 2 months. Just trying to work out my budget so I can afford to get Internet again.

We only pay water, not rates or anything else the coucnil issues.
Ring up tomorrow and ask for a copying of your lease. I don't know if they legally can ask for rates etc, but it's worth knowing what is in your lease.

Whilst renting you only pay for the water you use, no rates, sewerage or any of that

It also depends on if the units have separate meters or if they are on a shared meter. In one place I rented we were on a shared meter & the cost was divided between all the units

In QLD owners pay a portion of water use in their rates, so we pay anything we use over that allowance.

The owner can not make you pay the full amount of water usage in QLD unless the house is certified as water efficient. ie. toilets are dual flush, and cold water taps and showerheads must be a maximum flow rate of 9L/min.

In vic though we have tenants in our house who pay full water usage and we pay service and sewerage charges.

Okay I think I found something online that if a shared meter than it's $1.50 a week for a 2 bdrm unit. So I think I can take out of my $40/fn budget for water.

Mrs.S the iPhone rocks, the apps you can get are limitless really and it's more like a tool than a phone. I can't wait to get the 3gs although I will wait until July 2011 because I am sure I will get shafted again like I did when I got the 3g November 08 and they brought out the 3gs in July 09.

I have been lurking more than posting sneakysparkle! Maybe when I get the net hooked up and have some kid free moments you may see more of me. I tend to stick to fb and twitter because they are so much more accessible on my phone.
