The toy situation in DD's room is pretty out of control, so we're looking at getting a unit of the Ikea Trofast system. Unfortuanately, we are a 4 hour drive from the closest Ikea, so I'm trying to work it all out from the catalogue and internet before my sister heads up there with some friends in a couple of weeks.
My main question about it is the size of the boxes - the website nominates dimensions, but I'm assuming that is the largest dimension each way. Some of that will be lost with the wider edges for the rails etc. So I'm wondering if anyone has this system and could tell me what volume each of the bins are (ie litres). Then I can work out if certain things will fit in the biggest bin or if I should get two medium sized bins.
Oooh AJP has this for her kiddoes and I feel slight pangs of jealousy when I see how easily they clean up. We just have a whole lot of woven baskets but Trofast is what I aspire to....one day.....
Oooh - we have the Trofast system and I love it! I have labels on each box for what type of toy goes in there and even with our huge housewarming and loads of kids playing with the toys on Sunday it was relatively easy to clean up, because everything had a home.
I would like to help you out with the volume question, but I only have two sizes of bins - the second to largest and the smallest. I will go away and check them for you, and post this in the meantime so I don't lose it.
Also, you have to be careful on which shelf system you use. I accidentally bought a different one than I should have and had to swap it over. The shelving systems can either accommodate the drawers width-wise or length-wise, if that makes any sense! The smallest boxes (which I use for pens, craft, paints, etc) don't fit if you have the length-wise shelves, but are good with the width-wise ones. Perhaps I am being confusing here, I hope not.
