My poor little man is having the roughest time at the moment and I've just discovered he has a raging case of oral thrush. It is all over his upper gum/lip and cheeks.
He is only 6 months old so what can I do to get rid of it?? I have got a gel from the chemist but he eats it as quick as I can get it in his mouth so I'm not sure how much is actually getting rubbed into the thrush and I've also been giving him yoghurt for lunch.
Oral thrush isn't much fun is it? We treated it for DS with Daktarin GEL, not cream. And I guess to get as much in & around his mouth, maybe try putting it on your finger and rubbing it around rather than putting globs of it in for him to eat straight away IYKWIM? DS loved it cos its got a sweet flavour I think.
Are you breastfeeding? If so, you'll need to treat your nipples too. The same Daktarin Gel can be used safely. Otherwise you'll just keep cross-contaminating.
Other than that, washing hands is really important too and trying to not pass it on through towels, face washers etc. So hard!!!!!
My 18 month old just had this! I am not sure if they would give it to a 6mo, but i got some drops from the Dr (but i think she said you could get it over the counter)... i have to give it to him 4 times a day, but it has cleared it up fast. He is still on them though, for 48 hours after it clears up.
Hope you can find something that works. It is so hard to treat in littlies who can't understand they can't lick it all off!
the datarin gel never did squat for my girls!
nilstat drops worked a treat though. keep an eye on his bum too, ones the thrush comes away from the tongue it gets swallowed and can affect their bottoms when they poo, not entirely sure how true this is but thats wat the doc told me
I was thinking about getting Nilstat drops but couldn't figure out how they would work as I can't get him to swish it around in his mouth - any suggestions on how to get the drops on the upper gums?
