    Mirena removal???

I had my Mirena inserted by a Gyno (as is required), can any GP remove it (or do they have to be specially trained) or do I have to go back to Gyno if I want it removed?

    TIA

As far as I know your Gp should be able to do it - all they need is a speculum like the use for a pap smear to open the vagina to get it out - what they use to grab the strings with I have no idea LOL

My GP and my gyn/ob both said my GP was able to remove it. Apparently it isn't that hard to remove and my gyn said he has had one person claim hers had 'fallen out', which he said was highly unlikely and she probably did it herself (certainly not recommended)!

Good luck! I'm looking into having mine removed in a couple of months too.

your regular GP can do it all they need is a forcep and a speculum..

it is painless and easy to do,

you may get some breakthrough bleeding if your not due for AF but that is just ebcause the cervix has be aggrivated by the pulling of it out.

When i asked my GP she said that a gyno would need to remove it. I'll be getting mine out early August and having my tubes tied at the same time. I had mine inserted by a surgeon when i was undergoing a D&C.
