    Grazing me with front teeth

    Help

This is my third child, I BF the older 2 until about 14 months without any problems.

Jack has his 2 front teeth, and when feeding he is grazing me on the areola, he has broken the skin on the right hand side. It is really hurting me to feed at the moment.

I really don't want to wean him as we are going great guns, and to be honest I wouldn't know what to do with bottles.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get him to improve his latch, or anything else I can try.

    Thanks
    Meg

DS does this sometimes as well. he has 4 top and 4 bottom teeth..

I normally willl take him off if its too sore, and then go back to basics and attache him like a newborn, wide mouth etc rather than let him get on himself, as its never the deepest attachment, and thats when things get ouchy at our place.

He is not too happy when I do it though, and on tuesday he refused to feed on that side at all for about 5 minutes becuase I took him off the vreast twice as he was hurtingme too much. When he relaxed a bit I got him on with a better attachment and it was OK.

WRT how to treat the injury Im not too sure on that one other than breastmilk.

    Thanks Pandora.

I have been putting Lansiloh (spelling) on after a feed. The right side is his favourite so he has been having to suffer with the left just to try and give it a rest.

I think I will have to go back to basics, he isn't opening his mouth wide enough at all. Guess just being lazy.

Do you know what age they need to be at where by you can just give them milk from sipper cup and don't need to worry about bottle.

Megs, try putting him in a different hold, as that might ensure the teeth are not near the sore spot. I know it's harder as they get a bit bigger, but perhaps the football hold while you're trying to heal the nipple would work. And yes, definitely focus on getting the attachment right, sometimes as they get bigger we don't worry about it until something like this happens.

GL! FWIW I had this when my DD was nearly two and it took just a little while for her to 'grow' into a better attachment again.

He's old enough to go straight to a sippy cup at this age too. My DD just used little Tupperware cups with a spout lid from 7 mths (for water, with meals) no problems.
