am i doing something wrong? terry flats serious leakage..

so ive been using cloth terry flats while im at home for just over a week, i really liked it, and felt much better doing it (than using sposies all the time when i didnt need to be) she did her first poo in one the other night and it was a disaster SERIOus mess was made. im pretty sure its the covers fault (just some ones from Big W) as id idnt want to go and spend alot of money on covers if i decided it wasnt working for me or for whatever reason (that and i cant buy things online) and i had been to all kinds of shops and several baby shops looking for covers and they just arent around.
so is that what happened? or am i folding in wrong, im using the 'parallel' fold (just looked it up and thats the only name it had on it) should i be using a different fold? or it was just the covers?
    TIA ladies xx

I'd blame the covers The big w ones just don't fit great.
Try one of Maz's covers? They fit perfect over flats. When DS had the runs last them & flats was all I could use coz even sposies leaked!

DD2 was in TF's until just over 6 months old and i have to say its the covers! i do had the ones from big w and when she woke at night she was satched and they just dont work!! I would too look into Maz's covers they are so cute! With not being able to buy online though im not sure but no doubt you could come to some arrangement payment wise.

    1. Try some seriously good covers. The Motherease ones kick arse over flats

    2. Try a different fold. You need one that kind of tucks into the legs, so the nappy gives some containment. I used the I-don't-know-what-it's-called-fold, and hardly ever got poo on a cover. I'll go and check out some sites and see if I can direct you to a good demo.

    thanks for the tips ladies.

and i forgot to mention in the PM, where can you get the motherease covers from?
if ti comes down to it ill just have to get DH to buy it for me online, but he's not a fan of cloth nappies (yet ) coz he thinks they'll be too much work and i wont keep up to it LOL

I'd recommend using the kite fold at that age, I think it helps contain more poo? FWIW we used terry flats and bigw covers for ages with no probs. we're using BBH ones now and they're great, and pretty cheap too.

I can send you a medium baby beehinds cover (in red or yellow) cause I don't use them very often. I wouldn't need this one back.

And I can loan you either a medium or large mother ease cover to try if you like.

I use these when I am using flats and they fit ok.

Try using a different fold. I've used terry flats and the covers from big w since DD was born and have never had leakage, although if she hasn't woken up overnight she might feel a little damp in the morning, but never serious leakage. I use I think it is the kite fold, there is a site called The Nappy Lady (or something similar) that has a heap of different folding techniques so maybe play around with a few and see if that makes a difference. Cheaper than buying some new covers only to find out you still have the same problem.
